Brake Caliper Painting
Up in the air on brake caliper painting. Hoping some of you can provide some insight to help with my decision. Three choices I am considering:
1.) Have them done professionally. The average rate I am getting is $1500 which to me seems high. Am I wrong on this?
2.) G2 DIY kit with decals. It seems easy enough but I am terrified I will F it up. Anyone have any experience with the product?
3.) I found these online
http://www.ebay.com/itm/4X-Caliper-Brake-Cover-red-BMW-M-Mercedes-AMG-/181356979312?hash=item2a39b7e470&vxp=mtr

I try to do option two but the shop owner refuse to do it for an AMG because it will make the car looks too ghetto. (He had no problem doing it for my C300)

$1,500 is a crazy price. I paid $500 to have mine done here in NYC. I wouldn't have paid a penny more and you shouldn't neither!

I think option three is for the people who do not have the 6 pot calipers, these are designed to slip over the standard brakes to make them appear like the high end monoblocks we have on the c63. Sort of the wanabee camouflage option.

I just had my calipers done and it was less than $250. And these are for 6-pots on the front.
Powercoating is a different story altogether.

Just DIY- Its too easy. (but you gotta love getting yours hands dirty a little)
Its very easy. Just get a heat gun to speed the process up. 1 Can will do all 4 calipers with 4 coats each. Take your time between coats.
I personally dont do a clear coat, but it wouldnt hurt.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/270948556684
Thats where to get the stickers from (i have used him 3 times now)- He will do any size. I personally get 10cm ones (Approx 4") its JUST under factory text size.
Just make sure to mask up properly, and use newspaper/ drop sheets for the overspray.
Torque your wheels back to 120nm.
Happy to answer any questions you may have.

Contact at Tal at ACG. They have a "no downtime" turn around. $600 (standard colors) and $700 for custom colors plus core charge.

If you're still interested, I had mine done last year for $750 at Lodi Auto Body on rt46 in Lodi. It's a bit more than the $500 quoted by others but it's another option.

These prices of more than $500 are re-donkulous. However, it all depends on the preparation that they perform. If they are really sanding down your current calipers and putting on 4-5 coats plus a clearcoat, it might be worth it.

Anyone that puts clear coat on brake calipers either never drives their car or is trying rip you off. And, $1500 doesn't sound ridiculous at all once you take into account that you need to partially disassemble the calipers to do a proper job.
Calipers get HOT and the clear coat - or for that matter, any other "regular" paint - will burn, turning dark brown or black in the process. The only way to do it is to get some get some 2-part pigment + hardener high-temp caliper paint like Foliatec. Otherwise I can guarantee you that the results will be worse than what you started with the very first time you need to do a panic stop from highway speeds.

I don't think you can turn them brown from street driving..

Well, I have changed / rebuilt / painted brake calipers probably 40 times in the last 15 years on various cars, and all of them that were NOT done with special paint burned after two laps at the track. For street use, they may be OK if you refrain from repeated hard braking. YMMV.

I paid $800 to have my Porsche Brembo calipers powder coated yellow. Calipers were removed and all hardware taken off. I referred to them as my PCCB tribute calipers.
