Very easy to do. Never had any issue. Doesnt come off.

Very nice mate.

Did you take them off the car to paint? What type of paint did you end up using?

I want to do mine and also the hubs are full of surface rust from the lovely New England weather.

Took wheels off, but left brakes on the car, and just taped around the areas not to be painted.

Yes, i also did my hubs with silver, as they were deteriorating.

Thanks guys!

I like that color a lot. Very unique!

Red calipers are so common as an option (rightly so, red looks good) that I felt kind of exclusive getting the silver calipers with my '13.

Man why the hell everyone is going with the orange! It really looks bad in my opinion! Like, red or yellow are the only colors comes to my head :/ I guess each one has a taste..

Red is overly done IMHO. Sure it pays homage to performance brakes, but everyone and their grandma has red calipers.

Orange is actually unique and pays homage to MB's carbon ceramic brakes, which I feel is the next generation color for performance brakes.

Love the blue calipers btw!

The calipers look great! I'm thinking of doing this myself but in yellow, quick question, how did you prevent the ///AMG logo from being painted or did you simply placed new stickers on the caliper? It seems difficult to tape the logo since it would have to be the exact shape of the 3 alphabets

I will be using plasti dip so I can remove it in the future & can peel off any mistakes I might make.

Do you think plasti dip on the calipers can withstand the heat the brakes will generate? The rotors can get quite toasty during aggressive driving.

I'm not so sure it can.

Usually heat resistant paint is used for brake calipers.

I used high temp paint always. Engine paint or brake caliper paint.

First and foremost, the area you are painting must be TOTALLY clean and free of oils. The best thing to use is brake cleaner, as it evaporates itself, and brake cleaner combined with a bit of elbow grease is the best way. (Elbow grease can't be bought in an aerosol can though)

Once the area is clean, use masking take to mask up, and newspaper. I personally do 4 coats. First coat very lightly as a primer. 2nd and 3rd coats as normal. Allow each coat to dry fully before applying the next. A heat gun is good for this. Or Justin Beibers hair dryer will suffice.

The 4th coat is optional. Just a light one. As for the AMG logo, I just bought them off eBay. Some place in Thailand and they were only a couple of dollars for the set.
They have never peeled off for me. This is the 3rd time I have used this seller for his logos. He will do any size and colour for you.

Yeah, I like this blue coz it's different. Red is played out IMO. If not blue, I would do orange, I think that's quite nice. And in hind sight, on a black car, orange would have been perfect. I just did blue as I had paint left over from the ML.

Remember to torque your wheel nuts back to 120nm afterwards!

Looks good. Did you apply a layer of clear coat after you affixed the stickers? Sounds like a good DiY.

I didn't do a clear coat. I never have. But a clear wouldn't hurt I guess. Just so long as it's hi temp clear

I've searched that myself, seems that a good amount of people have done it with good results. The company says the paint can withstand up to 312 degrees, I live in a pretty cool climate that's usually in the 40-70's, & I don't track nor take the car to the canyons, my "aggressive" driving consists of only 0-90 freeway onramp pulls, I think I would be fine. However if you track your car where you are constantly hard on the brakes, I would go with something else. The only selling factor for me is that Plastidip is not permanent & knowing myself, I like to change things up.

The calipers can get as hot as 400 degrees (easily too, when pushing the car). I don't see the calipers themselves getting much hotter than that.

With respect to rotors, I know several guys that have seen their rotors reach temperatures of 650 degrees Fahrenheit.

You might very well be able to use the plasti dip for a while, but I don't think it will look good for long.

Most caliper-specific paint is designed to withstand temperatures of up to 750-800 degrees (although you can get paint that will withstand 1,250 degree temperatures: http://www.raceshopper.com/temperature_paint.shtml).

No harm in trying unless the plasti dip melts in a fashion that mars the original paint job on the calipers.

That sounds like some temperatures from cars fresh off the track, for folks that track there cars or take there cars up to canyon roads, I'd suggest something else like I said in my previous post for the peace of mind, however in my case, I'll be fine. The only "aggressive" driving I can do in my area are 0-90mph freeway onramp sprints, which I then usually just coast back down to 80mph without using the brakes. I searched & tons of people have done it with no issues yet, but hey if it does melt then I'll be the first case & I'll check back in to let you guys know lol.

Found this video of a heat gun vs some Plasti dip, I thought it was interesting.
