I dunno...these are now drive by wire systems. Back in analog day, maybe yes -- accelerator is integrated into so many other systems now that it's pretty simple to dial back when getting to a certain rpm. Same with fuel delivery, timing, etc.

Thanks for your input, but will get back to flogging car now

I sure hope a car that was designed as essentially a race motor that you can take to the track you can redline. Are we talking about punching the gas pedal and letting it redline through the gears. I think you can do this with any car. If you can't do this with an amg seems crazy to me. Obviously if you do it all the time the guy driving like a grandpa might last longer. But what's the point of having this car if you can't get on the gas a little. I punch it in my wife's glk from time to time on freeway on ramps no problems there.

There is a big difference between redlining & hitting the limiter.
Short answer facts:
* Redlining = okay if engine is in good condition
* Bouncing off the limiter = bad for any engine

Agreed. I don't shift until it's almost all the way up there. That's how these motors were designed. Mercedes has been making these same blocks for years and they are pretty good at it. Thats why we've all bought one. My .02
