keyless-go question
Dumb blonde question inbound...
Keyless-Go is the same thing as a push button start, right? Because my build sheet has keyless go on it but there is no push button start in my car. It is a 2013, but I'm thinking I should be able to show up to the dealer and have keyless-go installed.
Thoughts?

Does it open the door locks when you touch the handle?
You can pull the start button out and then it looks like a normal key start (stick the key in the same spot where the button goes and turn). Maybe you are just missing the button?
It could be the previous owner preferred the old fashioned key action and removed the button.
Just a wild guess, but you never know.

Thanks gents. Now I need the button!
And yes, my doors unlock when I reach for the handle.

There is a thread here on how to get all sorts of custom buttons - red, custom text on it, etc. I think it was called 'The ultimate go-fast accessory' or similar.
Or get the Mercedes one for more...... :-)

I looked it up for my VIN number (2014 C63 507). The button is the same for a large number of cars. Part number A221 545 07 14. Cost is 40$ retail or 30$ at oediscountparts.com

Can this be enabled on a 2009 US model? I thought I saw it was available/enabled in Canada but not the US?
Nevermind, I found the answer elsewhere. It can be done with a large expense to retrofit the door handles, etc.

Scary to think that they are universal. Seems like it leaves it open for someone else who has a MB, has a key, and can possible get into the car. If I am hearing you guys correctly, makes me skeptical.

This isnt something that can be enabled or disabled. Its an option on the car. It's not something universal that can be swapped around. Sure the button itself is, but that has very little to do with how the system works. On most 08'+ cars you can put your key in and turn the ignition regardless of what car the key is for.... now its not going to start the car or even make lights come on, but it will turn in the ignition, that is in essence all that button is doing. With the wrong key It should also say that the key is not for that vehicle in the cluster.
Keyless go involves a ton of extra hardware. The keys themselves are difference and cost slightly more in the 30$ range. All 4 door handles are different and have sensors inside them. All 4 doors have antennas inside them. There is a keyless go antenna inside the car as well as one in the trunk. Lots of additional wiring obviously. You can roll the window down and hold your key out try to start the car and it wont. The only thing some may find strange about the system is that you can start the car if you have the key, someone with the key gets out but you dont turn the car off and it will continue to run. It will ping up a message saying the key is not detected but the car will still run. Now once you turn it off it wont restart unless the key is present. This is incase while driving down the road something happens to the key or communication you wouldnt want the car to die on you. The only down side to keyless go is battery life. The newer keys only have 1 battery and depending on usage last anywhere from 12months to 3 months.
Anyhow it's a great option and hard to live without if you've already spoiled yourself and had it on a previous vehicle.

When I get courtesy loaner vehicles from my mercedes dealer they almost always have keyless go but never come with the button. This likely is so that people who arnt used to having keyless go, don't forget to turn off the car. Who knows really. Anyways, I always just stick my pinky finger in there and press, the car fires right up. So, if you're cheap and don't want to spend the money, just ram your finger in there with your foot on the brake.

So I think I am in the same boat as you Purpleheart, my build sheat says "keyless-go" but I still have to put my key in and turn it. However, I do not have to hit a button to unlock my doors. Let me know what your outcome is because I would MUCH prefer the push button start to actually turning the freaking key, so much effort.

The button is universal, but your key isn't. The car won't start unless the right key is detected inside the car.
