I have "keyless go" as an option on my build sheet, and my doors do unlock when I touch the handle. However, pressing the button manually with my pinky does nothing. Am I missing something? I thought I'd give it a try before buying the real start button.

Which "button" are you talking about? If you don't have a start button in your ignition it will not work.

I tried pushing the button where the key goes. Since the start button just snaps on over the key hole I figured I'd give it a try
Guess I need coding

Definitely no coding involved. Did you step on the brake when pushing the button? If yes, you probably do not have keyless go.

I'm confused, it sounds like u don't have a "real" start button yet but try to push start ur car? The actual start button has a chip behind it that detects ur key.

At least you just have to insert key and turn it. Imagine those BMW owners without "Comfort Access" they have to insert fob into a slot and then press the start button.

My tuner at OETuning said he can program the coding to enable the push to start button.

Mike,

this would be really strange. The button definitely has no chip, so it istelf does not need coding. And keyless go requires hardware, e.g. antennae and receivers to communicate with the key, so it is not just a software matter.

Could it be, that:
1. Your car is originally a keyless go car, but
2. a previous tune disabled the start function in the ECU, and
3. now OE says it can be re-enabled?

That would be unusual, though.

Update:

First things first, huge shout out to Andrew, (AMG893), for hooking me up with a button. Came from Australia to NY in like 3 days. Thanks again buddy.

For everyone else, especially if you bought used and didn't have the push button, I recommend you get your build sheet printed up and see if keyless-go was an option. ****All you need is the button, no coding whatsoever*** As far as how long it takes to mod you car, how about 1-Mississippi. Just put the button in the slot and done.

Lastly, I used to be like "big deal, so turn the key." Well, I have to admit, this is amazing. Not even having to dig into pockets and fumble around with keys is a very nice touch. Just get it, push, and go.

AGAIN *****NO CODING REQUIRED***** (I stress this because I know it has been mentioned here).

Thanks again, Andrew.

Do you need to print a build sheet? I thought all keyless-go optioned cars have the touch handle lock/unlock thing? If you have that, then you can throw in the button.

Keyless-go enabled cars all have the chrome top part on handles but some may be wrapped or painted over.

Yeah, that'll work as well. I was just too dumb to realize this (and didn't have keyless in my previous c63) so one day I was getting the build sheet from the dealer to confirm I had an OEM LSD and saw keyless on it.

It looks like you can order Keyless Start on Canadian cars separately now, so my method won't work. Some cars, like the MY2016 GLA/CLA/B, will have Keyless start standard, and Keyless-Go (lock/unlock plus start) optional, which makes my method useless.

Not sure about US.

If you are trying my pinky finger method, make sure you press the brake pedal before attempting to start the car.
