M5?
Hey guys, please don't flame me. I've owned AMG's for the past 12 years, but lately been thinking about an M5, and even an M6. I'd love to hear your opinions on these cars.

Totally different cars (if you're talking about the TT V8s). Those cars are really fast (especially with a tune which is about 600+ whp). These cars are more comparable to the E63 rather than the C63 but it would be an "upgrade" if you get either car, except in the sound department of course

i like my amg but i'm not a blind brand loyalist, the m5 has a LOT to offer....but anytime someone says they want an M5 I always highly suggest taking a look at the e63S as well. You can find some decent prices on them right now and those awd cars are a beast.

I drove the m5. It was nice, but if you were to go after one I'd go 2014+. Also, if you are considering the m5 might as well give the e63/s a go and maybe even an s7/rs7 but the rs is still quite pricey.
If you live in the snow e63s would be amazing for year round use.

Thanks, guys. I'm not up to speed with BMW's, but I was thinking about the latest versions, so probably won't be for another yearish because I'd probably get it CPO. I love the M6, and the M5 has been tugging at me lately. I'm not a huge fan of the E's. I used to really like the CLS, but it's been starting to look ugly to my eye.

just curious, why not a 13? did they do an update?
OP, iam in the same boat as you (leaning more towards the m6/cls63) so much power from both tt v8's... and with a tune both are taking down some very impressive cars. m5 board has some very knowledgeable guys. check it out. where is the cls63 side of this forum??

And I agree that the CLS forums are a little light. This C63 group is definitely the most active. You want to see tumbleweeds? Check out the G55/63 forum!

2012+ M5 and M6 are pretty crazy. Bolt ons put you in the 700hp range. IMO maintenance is much better on these cars when compared to the E63/CLS63 as well.

AMGs are definitely more to maintain than M's. With all bimmers you will get 50k/4yr warranty that covers literally anything that breaks. Parts both aftermarket for modding and OE for maintenance are not as expensive.

^^^ I think the M6 gan coupe is the best looking 4 door coupe out there followed by the Audi R7. However, my personal preference would be an E63s wagon.

Get the M5 if that is what you like. Take it from me, they are a beast and much nicer overall vs the C63.
As pointed out by someone out above, I am not a Brand Loyalist - I like ALL cars. If a manufacturer builds a fast and nice looking car I'm on board no matter who makes it. IMHO, the CTS-V is looking pretty good, but let's see how it does once in the real world with real people behind the wheel.
The E63 is also a nice option, but you'll find the M5 to be a better perfomance driving car vs the E63. However, you can make the E63 into one mean drag racer, especially the AWD version. However, during non drag racing scenarios, I've noticed that the M5 seems to have more legs from mid to top vs the E63 even if both equally modified and also in stock form. Can't really go wrong with either the M5 or E63; either would be an upgrade over the C63. The M6 is nice, but I don't really like it as much as the M5.
You can find some decently priced 2013 units and/or a few 2014 CPO. Either way, tuned, downpipes (not cats), exhaust and filters is all you need to run some crazy numbers and shock many exotics.
Don't worry for asking about an M5 in this forum, true car guys will not give you any grief over it. Only those brand loyalist/Fan boys will get their panties in a wad - but who cares what they think.
Hope this helps

I would pick the RS7 over the M5 but then M6 grancoupe and then M5. They are very fast and nice. The RS7 with tune is a MONSTER.

this thread got me curious and i went and looked at 2014 m5 prices online and wow they have dropped a ton in just 6 months. I was helping someone search for one earlier this year and prices were about $10-15k higher than they are now
a 14 m5 is now actually cheaper than a 14 e63s (within 100mi of me at least)

Meh, just not my taste. I see one at work everyday and I just don't care for the way it looks. I would def rather have RS7 lol or E63 Wagon

^ RS7 is more rare and such such secks. Omg. If I could afford one I would definitely jump on it but between the rs7/e63s/m5 the rs7 is most expensive.

OP a M5 is a different category compared to the C63. It is heavy, comfy and can be fast. I test drove one and was not impressed. I prefer the responsiveness of the E63S. I cannot talk about the RS7 but for sure it is a nice looking car. Someone mentioned the new CTS-V. Is that car released yet?
One way to figure out would be to test drive all of them and decide.

I have owned a M5 and now have a C63 and the m5 is nice, but listen carefully. The M5 doesnt age well. The interior is not as nice as any of the Merc's. The M5 doesn't handle like the M3 and is not the best engineered car of the M family. I have had issues with some light interior and exterrior trim items. Its not at all cheap like A GM/Caddy, not even close but my C has more and better built interior stuff. Seats, carpets, leather all better in the C. Sound, feel handeling also The C is better. Although the I Drive is in my opinion better than what we have in the Merc's but that's an opinion. For a long drive, i would go with the M5, but I like my C63 a lot better for overall enjoyment. My 2 cents.
