Granted that might have been a little TMI but at least you know what car it is.
My issue is the transmission is making a growl when I step on it going up hills here in San Francisco. (trans mount is 8 months old) It's fine if I'm just strolling along so I figure I better get my ducks in a row because this is going to be expensive. The readout says 722.649 but everyone's part identifier widget says it's a 722.628. I would think it would be sensible to use the stronger trans with the V12tt. I'll know when I crawl under it and look. Can anyone recommend a good rebuilder in the bay area that knows the difference? Oh yeah I'm also in the middle of ABC and Coil Packs as if I didn't have enough on my plate. One option I am considering is to buy a spare and send it to Renn Tech and have them do their thing to it for like 4K but something tells me if I go to the right guy I can get the same parts installed for price of a regular rebuild. It sounds like bearings going out to me so I'm babying it for now as it's my daily driver. Any thoughts on the best rout to go with the trans? I would like to upgrade the parts to handle the extra torque.

A little history on the car. 80,000 mi. on the clock I've had it since last April I drive it 7.6 miles a day to work. It had bad nitrogen ***** on when I got it and you could not hear the trans noise. After it blew the U-turn ABC hose (AKA Pump to separation point HPE) I replaced it and the accumulators and the whining noise went away to reveal how bad the trans noise was. The trans rear mount is new. It also needs engine mounts and I know they will make noise when bad enough but this is in the transmission. Plans for the car after motor mounts, ABC, coil packs, and trans include better inter cooler, trans cooler, oil cooler, Quaife LSD, Brembo brakes and a set of staggered rims, the cup holder works, Dream car complete. the little metal shift lever is on the way from amazon too.

Thanks I hope to hear some replies.

Looks like a base model 600, no parktronic or anything, my first one was like that, just AMG pack and nothing else. I can't do the grey interior though, gotta be black on black.

To your question, I have seen people say the front pump bearing goes out/makes noise, as you suggest a rebuild should address that. I don't know if it would only be obvious under throttle though, I don't know enough about internal transmission repairs yet to say that.

Interested to hear what you find though, as my car is similar age/mileage and also tuned, and i'm sure I will break the transmission at some point as I continue to add power and abuse the car more.

oil level

These transmissions are sensitive to oil level, so the first thing to do is make sure that's right. Its not trivial. Do you have a dipstick tool? No point not having one if those.

Nick, Yes just got it and it's low, dropped in a quart of Valvoline Max-life to get me by til flush time. Waiting on IR thermometer and filter should be here any day. Going with Titan 4134, filter, and connector adapter. Would it being low on fluid cause it to growl like that and it just needs more fluid? Or, is it what I think it is and it's too late for love, get ready to bend over and fork out for a trans?

Thanks for the reply
Chad

Yes, too high or too low fluid does indeed cause nasty noises.

Wrong fluid level will make the pump howl.

If fluid is low, it's got a leak. I would check trans plug mount for fluid.

This is the electrical connector prone to leakage
