Please tell me the official name of this interior wood

Is it black maple? I am looking for a steering wheel that matches my dark gray wood and all I see out there is brown burl.

I've got that trim on my E63. It's called black birdseye maple, option code 732. Finding pieces to match is damn near impossible, but if your just doing a steering wheel, should be okay. Trying to match pieces that are installed next to each other is a major PITA if not impossible, especially if one of the pieces is new.

Looks exactly like mine and I looked on my VMI to get the name and code number right. They may have used a different wood on CL class, but I don't think until later, and then the Ash was matte finish.

A google search turned up poplar, burl walnut and birds-eye maple oem options. There may be more, but that's what I could find. The only one in that color was the maple.

I stand corrected. Further searches led me to the Black Ash option for a design interior for a 2008 CL class. Apologies for the misinformation.

I couldn't post specific page link out of pdf. Scroll to page 21 for interior trim options.
