Radio Code Reset

Radio Code Reset
Hello all,
I have a 1998 CLK 320 with the factory radio. The radio is asking for it's code....no problem there. I have the code, verified by two seperate dealers.
I follow along with the procedure in the manual, enter my code and after entering the code is displayed, with the first digit blinking.
According to the MB user manual, if, after entering the code, the code is displayed with the first digit flashing, then the code is correct.
However, when I press the SC or Tun or Seek (as it says to in the manual), the radio goes back to asking for the code again.
This is frustrating...has anyone had this happen before? Is there an undocumented step that I am not aware of? All I have is the original owner's manual.
I am getting very tired of my own singing!

Thanks
That is probably what will happen. Going to try the dealer one more time to see if they have a quick and easy solution. But it's probably cheaper to replace then let them run up the hours trying to figure it out.

If the original equipment AM/FM/Wideband/Cassette in your dash is the same as the one that came out of my dash, it is expensive. Mine was part number 2088201086 and lists for $1490. I don't know of any car dealer who fixes head units. If it's busted, they typically replace them. The dealer may have a line on rebuilt units. If you're in SoCal, I can recommend an authorized place in Van Nuys that can fix it.
I bought an Alpine X305 when they were first announced. I coupled it with a $15 Bose adapter and have never regretted it for one minute.

I replaced it with one of these recently and it's chalk and cheese. Your iPhone/Ipod or USB flash drive just plugs straight in. The latest gears are just far superior to the old Eurovox! It took an installer all of 15 mins to install.

Problem solved
Turns out there was a simple solution....remove the radio. The dealership was nice enough to do this for me while I waited and sent the serial number off to MB. They came back with a different radio code then the dealer's system had on record.
I guess someone changed it along the way.

98 Brilliant Silver E320 Wagon
Just an FYI -
Becker NA will exchange/repair any of their radios for a reasonable fee. Most MB's in the late 90's / early 00's had Becker radios. If you go to their site beckerautosound.com you can find your year/model to see what was OE.
Buying used MB radios on eBay is dicey since if they are stolen the seller will be giving you a fake code.

I have just discovered that my radio is kaput. Can get only a few stations so thought it was aerial - after much messing turns out its the radio itself. Cant believe repalcement audio 10 is £470 from main dealer. Didnt even think much to its sound quality. but how do I know which model will do to replace it if I go to Ebay. They all look identical and the part numbers mean nothing to me! Surely there wont be so many different models will there?
