CLK W209 Wind deflector

Hello fellow Mercedes-ians,

I recently purchased a second hand wind deflector for my CLK, which was missing one of the two assemblies shown in the attached. It was priced well, and I didn't think the missing piece would be an issue so I got the wind deflector and ordered separately part # A209 868 0132. It turned out that this part # is just the clamp highlighted in green, and the bracket highlighted in red cannot be ordered separately without the wind deflector itself

So my question is, has any one experienced this challenge before? By any chance, does any of you good people have access to a Solidworks drawing of the bracket? I'll be very grateful for any feedback and advice you might have for me.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Best regards,
Mikolaj

What does that lever even do? Now I'm curious enough to go look at mine. Do you think you will actually use the deflector? I don't think many people do. I tried mine once just for the heck of it and found that it wanted to fold flat at the speeds I wanted to drive. But even if it didn't, I'm sure I would never have used it again. It takes up trunk space and requires me to install it, which sort of detracts from the automatic nature of the folding top.

Hi Yidney, so I only used the deflector when cruising with my wife - we live on the west coast of Ireland, and man it gets windy sometimes! I don't care about it, but the missus does! So mine doesn't fold flat, but that's probably because my 200 is not capable of reaching the same speeds as your 550

At any rate, that lever slots into the hole in the back seat, next to the safety belt. All it does is keeping the deflector secured in place so it doesn't take off hehe.

I don't believe you can get that part separately. My advice would be to find someone selling a wind screen in bad condition and scavenge the part.

As for the usefulness of the wind screen, I keep mine in place all the time and use it when driving on the highways. You do have to raised the side glass to keep the wind from folding it back down. With the screen and glass up, I can drive 100mph+ down the highway and there's less wind and turbulence than in a car with an open sunroof.

Thanks for your response Rudeney. I'm hunting on Ebay worldwide for an appropriate deflector, and if I get no joy my plan B is to refresh my Solidworks skills & get the part CNC-ed in a nylon composite for $60.

Agreed 100% on the usefulness, it certainly reduces the whirl inside the car.

I have people in my rear seats often enough that I'd get annoyed taking it back out. If I never did, then I might use it more. I've never thought it had much effect on actual wind even though it is called a wind deflector, but rather broke up the air flow caused by your forward speed through the air - windy or not. The only times I drive with the windows up is if I'm at the limit of driving with the top down - i.e., its in the 50s. Driving with the windows up any other time would feel sort of confining and detracting to the overall open air feel to me. I guess I don't mind being buffeted and having crazy hair.

I hear what you're saying Yidney. I'm the same, I don't care about crazy hair and I do feel that windows and deflector up take away the feeling of openness - however, if it's a day like this
(which is quite normal where we live BTW) then unfortunately this is the only way to entice my missus for a ride

I take it by your signature that the state you live in has a little bit more sunshine / less wind than Ireland?

See, your point of view is all wrong - you need to use the wind as an excuse to leave the missus home so you can be by yourself! I suppose every state has more sunshine than Ireland, although Wyoming would give you a run for your money on the wind. I live in Colorado where, for whatever reason, it is nowhere near as windy as Wyoming to the north.

I don't have to worry much about the wife riding in the CLK. Besides not wanted her hair windblown with the top down, she also does not how low it sits (I know, it really doesn't sit low, but compared to her Jeep...) Anyhow, I find Yidney's comment about actually using the back seat for passengers to be quite amusing. I always joke that I "only put people I dislike" in the back seat. I guess Yidney carts around a bunch of people he doesn't like, huh?

Oh, for those using the wind screen - if you drive at highway speeds, you MUST raise the side glass. Otherwise, the wind will force the screen back down. But with the side glass up, it creates a reverse pressure which holds the screen up.

And one more comment (just to rub it on for those of you who live in colder climates), I drove around all day today with the top down enjoying our unseasonal 78F sunny day.

These windscreens are worth the price just because it keeps the wife happy. I have never used the back seats for anything but carrying groceries.
