Diggin' the Dual Mode Exhaust
The appeal for me to own the CLK500 cabriolet is that it has styling, comfort and sophistication of a luxury car. Having the drop top and 5.0 provides the sport characteristics that make it seem like there are 2 cars in one. The only thing keeping it from having a true roadster feel has been the sound. So I opted for the remote operated Dual Mode Exhaust and so far its my favorite change made. The option to choose a quiet ride or a burly deep throat-ed rumble a 5.0 can provide with the ability to dial in everything in between continues to force a fat grin especially with the top down. The stock setup on the clk is very tight for mod's but thankfully the shop I took it to has some great custom techs who work on every exotic ride out there to the standard grocery getter. We spent a good 15 minutes looking for a spot that would accept the QUICK TIME PERFORMANCE automated valve installed post resonator (for the right exhaust note) that would not sit lower than the rest of the system and become a catch for the wrong speed bump or scrap in the road. This brand is all the shop uses after testing and failing with many other brands. I am personal friends with the shop owner so his opinion carries some weight for me. I attached a pic for those who are considering this as the location worked out great. The controls were programmed into my 2nd and 3rd homelink buttons so its very easy to use. Hope this helps!

That's cool. I like that you were able to control the valve via your homelink. Do you plan to make sound clips?
Congrats!

Valid point. The dual look option was something we discussed and as you can tell by the pic it would not be hard to have completed. It would be sweet to operate the drivers side exhaust for stock sound and passenger side for the sportier sound - no doubt. Two things got in my way of doing this. I simply am not ready to cut into the rear bumper yet, and two I don't want to tip off California smog shops that I've done anything at all to modify the exhaust. Technically this does not change emissions one bit but it wouldn't pass the visual if I installed duals. The way its setup now I can just close off the valve and run the exhaust flow through stock muffler and all would be good.

Sounds Sweet! oh yes def! if you have all those issues with emissions etc. Im in Florida that would not be a problem to modify lol...best choice by far. * Stealth mode activated!
