I did the same on my car with 129,000 Km and the fluid came out black like that.
It feels good when you change fluids with such wear especially for the differential fluid which barely anyone changes.

Reanimation, you're in the UK aren't you? Where did you get the diff oil from and what did it cost you?
The diff oil is the only fluid I have yet to change.

Plus this was amazing for refilling or extracting the fluid.

I did however experience smoother shifts after I changed the transmission fluid on my 722.6.

I went to the dealership to buy ATF yesterday and the price dropped, from $23CAN to $13CAN per litre.

Well I've just done the gearbox fluid also and just been for a blast down the motorway, I can definitely feel the car pulling smoother from 70 to 100 it feels great.

Tools I used, 14mm hex socket, breaker bar/ratchet, penetrating spray, oil suction gun, trolley jack, Axle stands.
I removed one of the rear wheels to get better access to the top filler plug, the drain plug is much easier to remove, I replaced what I removed or just when it started to seep out from the filler plug.

Must do
Once you get the filler bolts out it is braindead easy.
Don't remove the rear wheel just jack it up and let gravity help.
In my case there was some fine metal particles and afterwards
it was much more quiet. To think there is actually a change in
performance I would attribute to a placebo effect......

I just had the dealer do this. Cheapest job they have ever done for me. After changing the conductor plate myself a couple of months ago I didn't feel like I needed to jump under the car again in a hurry. No performance increase real or otherwise.

Knowing that the diff. fluid is not expensive, how much labour (in hours) did they charge? One post here said 1.3 hours.

0.3 hours which sounds like what it would take. The car was already in for camber arm installation if that changed anything but the labor for that was charged separately.
