Did you run driver side pipe independently on its own side of transmission? Hows the ground clearance? Been thinking of that since its feels and looks silly when the pipe corners round transmission original route.

The Fins are bending rods on Turbo Diesel 603, 606.
I am glad to see that Carillo jumped in and helped to make right.
Carillo, Kieth Black, Wiesco, Childs and Alberts and a few other forgers will make it to specification.
Been around for many moons.
Thanks for the photo of the rod it is like the early days of nitrous. Bending a rod is better than loosing a block. You have to give the Benz folks some credit.
All the Best, Gator

Also what shells did you use with them and are the rods lighter or heavier that the stocks ones?
Thanks

Did the same thing. Funny how much diffirence it made to exhaust note to delete few 90-degree bends. Rest of the exhaust is same no mods.

What shells did I use? Not sure I understand that question. They are heavier than stock rods but much much stronger. Was told they would hold over 1500hp easy
I thought it was just me. It sounded alot smoother but I didn't get may miles on the setup

I don't know of any aftermarket company that has rods on their shelves for these cars. Everything is custom. Therefore there is no part number. Cost as a little over $3k retail. I can get the exact number but I don't have it off the top of my head. Not cheap and takes approximately 2 months to make. I would sell everything I have but don't want to piece it out.

Shell = conrod shells.
What's up, you're changing the platform?

Shells must be british terminology. Do you mean bearings? If so, I've heard fo peeople using Honda ones but I'm using the overpriced AMG ones

The 603 diesels are twisting, worst case taking out a valve and cylinder which are sleeved.
I mentioned in some of my posts that a creative parts man that races could probably come up with a stronger counterpart that serves the purpose. I used honda rods in the Chevy but Benz and Chevy are no comparison at all.
Hunch Mitsubishi are pumping 1000 hp from a 4cyl. hmmm!!, takes a clever parts search.
Most manufacturers are engineering to comply with life of the engine, The Rod pictured above was part of breaking records and served an admirable life but breaking records with a Benz will cost because of the rarity of the need.
Arias was a dominant forger as well.
If we change any weight of a part in the reciprocating parts of the bottom end balancing is a must.

And here are some updates.
I flew down to Orlando to pick up/assemble my short block a couple weeks ago.
Precious cargo on the long drive back to MD!
Now to get the car back in the ship from it's resting place for what seems like forever I used my other CLK lol
Time to put the rest of it together! All in the details!
New hybrid oil pump, new chain guides, new everything!
Decided to powdercoat my spare valve covers and install an oil catch can
Everybody likes a good insertion pic
Oh and I picked up this thing and started modding it because I was getting bored waiting for parts for the CLK

Who did your engine machining in Orlando? I had pretty good relationship with many of the race shop machinists, Bo Laws used to cater to circle track and drag folks. Engine entrepreneur Rick Mann was recruited by Petty Enterprises back in the late 80s and Brother Ray recruited by Bo from RHS Tennessee to port cylinder heads in the 80s.
He died in a car fire after his 69 impala became airborn on the 408 returning home from a speedworld turkey trot drag fest.
His brodix aluminum big block nova is still a masterpiece.
I used in the past Boyd racing, Auto Machine and the moore foundry for custom axles.
Looks like a real winner from the latest photos and more reliable for many runs.
Cheers to BB,
Gator

Chris took care of my block machining.
I haven't updated this in a while. I went to MIR and Jerry sent me files remotely to try and tune the car. Something was up with the suspension/alignment because the outside of my tires weren't contacting the ground and I couldn't get traction. Best trap of the day was 143.5mph and best ET was 10.007 on the last pass. The car makes enough power to run mid/high 9s with traction and the tune isnt even optimized yet. I haven't touched the car since the track day. Been too busy with the new house. Hopefully run 9s next time out
