Got Carplay update for Command system
Updated my Nov 2015 build 2016 CLS command system to have Carplay. Nothing required but software even though dealer said I needed to order the "part" that replaces the usb ports in center console. I told them to just apply update and I'll order the part if it didn't work.
Works like a charm but really just a gimmick. I think the Command interface is much nicer to look at and the text messages are visible on screen with the Command system...in Carplay, Siri just reads them to you.
The only thing that is better is the Navigation and Voice recognition.
I really wanted it but now that I have it...I probably will rarely use it.
Ask any questions if you have em!

Hi all:
I live in Canada. The dealer didn't charge me a dime...but I do send them quite a bit of business and I complained that my 2016 should have had it included (even though I have a November build). I did not change the usb panel in glove box although they said it needed to be done (it doesn't). I think that part is around $100
Honestly, the factory interface is so much better than Carplay. I used it the first day and haven't used it since. The only thing that might be a bit better is using Siri to input map directions. If you don't use Nav too much...I wouldn't say this is an update worth spending money on.
I found a lot of info in the CLA forums and google. I am really doubting a 2013 would be able to do this update.

carplay is awesome for maps/nav (as everything is updated all the time and you can input your destination in you phone before you even get in the car), but eh for everything else. It is possible to upgrade earlier model years by switching out to the NTG 5 unit and controller. There is a thread in the E class forum about it.
