Resonators out - Xpipe in $120

So instead of permanently taking out the resonators and mufflers and putting in an X-pipe. What about just simply putting in electronic cutouts... power on reserve? Guess you would loose a bit of weight taking out the mufflers, but it's already a heavy beast haha.

No, you will have to get under the car to see what we are talking about. The front little bullet resonators merge into a large central resonator. All of this gets cut out and straight pipe and a x pipe goes in its place.
Then the exhaust goes back to the rear where more cats and mufflers exist. I assume that you would want to put the cutouts in front of that.
However, this won't really do much. The limitation on the 550 engine once you have done this is up at the manifold. You need really expensive headers and tune if you want to go further. Pretty cool but lots of dollars so a CLS63/55 should be in order if you are going to go that far.

I'm about to pull the trigger on getting my exhaust chopped up tomorrow I think. Planning on putting an x-pipe where the secondary cats are, and straight pipes in where the resonators are. What do you think? Lakehouse, do you have a slightly different suggestion?
Got a quote for $350 today.. but that's cause I live in Auckland, NZ

Just wanted to share my experience....on my w219 CLS
I cut the Mufflers off and ran 2 Tips.. (left Original cats and Resonator)= Sounds Amazing!

Im interested in modding my exhaust for a more noticable exhaust note on my cls550. Did you guys have any drone with just the resonator removed, and xpipe in place? I dont want any drone whatsoever. Thanks for any replies.

No drone and removes a ton of weight. Cheap so a no brainier. However, this does not make the car much louder. You will have to swap the rear mufflers if you want louder.
I would suggest that you do this first and see what you think. If you want louder then maybe start searching for used mufflers. Not sure what model matches the size of these.
