My car was sitting in the garage for a couple of hours already. I just heard some "self whining" sound under the hood behind the passenger side headlight. The sound last for a few minutes, then it turned off itself, then it came back again.

I checked the car and there was no message displayed.

What is this sound? My car is a 2014 e350 4 matic.

I have a 2014 E550 and it does all kinds stuff after it's shut off. I have had something running and I found out it was a fan that dries out the evaporator in the AC to prevent against musty odor.

So, the fan is near the right hand side behind the headlight (passenger side)?

Not right behind the headlingt, but in the same general area behind it.
