on my 1998 E430, the two speakers on near each a/c vents are actually for the hands free kit. however you can take them out and use them for your stereo.

Are you serious???

I thouhgt those were tweeters. IF I wanted to hook up an aftermarket phone in the car can I access them instead of the generic box speaker that the kit comes with?

Yes, they are on the driver side trunk area, behind all the carpettings...at least that's where the module for the cellular phone connector is.

The door speakers are 6.5" with a tweeter built in front of the 6.5" driver

Thanks a lot !! one more question: where is the Bose amp locate ? I got a idea to upgrade the system. If I install a new Sony head unit and by pass the Bose amp ( conect Bose amp "in" wires with "out" wires directly-- without conect to the amp). also install new speakers at the same time, will this work ? everyone try this before ? thanks
look like this:

BEFORE:

[head unit]---in wires-------[Bose AMP]-------out wires---[speakers]

AFTER:

[Sony unit]----in wires--------------------------out wires-----[speakers]
.........................................[Bose AMP].......................................

The Bose amp is exactly the same place as the hardness for the HFS. You'll see the rectangular box.

You should be able to bypass the Bose amp and connect directly to the speakers off of the head unit as long as the speakers have a negative lead and a postive lead. But why would you want to do that? I would change the head unit and connect it to a new small amp in the trunk and then run the speakers from there. Just the head unit alone will not have the power that the bose amp has to get good sound out of the stock speakers. Just my suggestion as I used to be an audio installer back in the day. Still play around a little but a bit rusty but it's like riding a bike, you never forget the basics and then some...

Jimmy:

Thanks for the info, I did think about to put a amp, what is a good 4 ch amp to run my door speakers ? I am not too crazy about the sound system, just something a little batter than Bose system, compare the E420 Bose system to my Q45 system. I feel fine with the Q45 Bose sound system ! Whats the good amp I can put in my E420 ? I am thinking about 50W per ch. Kenwood ? a/d/s ? any suggestion ? Thanks

There are too many to chose from and the ones you mentioned will probably do. But, it depends on the quality of sound you want and the what options you like. Check this link out to compare a variety of different amps: http://www.sounddomain.com/shop/amps If you were asking me my opinion, here is one of my favorite amps as it is low cost, 5 chanels to run an entire mid-level system and just a kick a** amp all around. I just installed one of these in my friend's BMW and wow! Check it out and let me know what you think: http://www.nowonsale.com/ppf/itemnam...0/itempage.asp
