Wow that's exactly what I was worried about. The main reason I want the thing unlocked so bad is the god damn NAV thing, and I wasnt sure if the kit allows us to do that or not. Guess its out of the question.

So I e-mailed the seller (Mid City Engineering, one of our sponsors) and got this reply
"Installation is pretty simple depending on your experience. Anything that you can only do in park, you will be able to do in motion with our piece." Sounds like this thing just bypass the whole VIM system, or at least is fooling it. But for the price... I gotta admit the thing sounds very tempting tho.

The Hard Drive is on the left hand side inside the trunk. At least it is on my E350 USA model.

They have them on eBay too, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ht_3050wt_1165
I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think it lets u use the navigation while driving. In fact, I think it completely disables the navigation while in motion. They're not too expensive, so some brave person might wanna give it a shot and let us know. Last edited by jumper4000; 03-05-2010 at 11:51 PM. |

![]() EDIT: From what I can remember, Mercedes in Taiwan never offered navigation in any of their model, so maybe thats why you got this info?

http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w204...t-midcity.html http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w204...ml#post3288249 They both say the Navigation doesn't work at all while the VIM kit is active, and it takes about 15 seconds for it to start working again, even after deactivating the VIM. They're using it on 2009 models and are using the $470 kit from Midwest Engineering. I don't know how different that is from the eBay kit and how it works on 2010 models. If you try it, please let us know how it goes. |

I just checked with the ebay seller, and unfortunately you're right, it does not unlock the nav.

If you have star dignose computer it is piece of cake
First of all, in Korea, almost every car has DMV(digital TV broadcasting). This DMV works in any speed, which means you can watch TV in your car while moving. For mercedes and BMW and other imported cars, DMV system was added on to factory command by bypassing the aux. But the problem was screen locks when car is moving. So they found way that STAR DIGNOSE COMPUTER actually can change the setting. Basically, they took the car in for about 5 min. Plug the computer to the car and change setting to unlock screen in motion. Then all DVD,TV and even AUX IPOD screens displayed in any speed. This STAR COMPUTER is only available in DEALERS. But there were few indy shops bought the computer and share due to the price. If anyone can acess to the computer use, then it will be just 5 min work. I am not sure who has the computer in US, and it will be serious law problem if somebody get an accident because of it. Anyway, Good luck.

Hi All,
I have a 2010 E550 Sedan and bought the kit from Mid City Engineering and I must say this kit is amazing. It allows the user to use the navigation and DVD while in motion. The install is quite simple as I did it myself. |

How long did the install take youo to do and how much is the kit? Is there any wire cutting or is it plug and play?

The install took about 30 mins, It was all plug and play. They include great instructions with full color diagrams/pictures. I believe the kit was $400 USD. hope that answers all your questions and concerns.

I think I've come up with a workaround for this problem. I just came up with the idea right now, so it's still sketchy and I have to do some programming. Hopefully I'll have something up soon, and I'll make it free for all

Okay, so here's the idea - I basically wanted to be able to type up an address at times when the car is too loud, or just when I didn't want to deal with the hassle of speaking the address & going through all those annoying steps. So, I came up with the idea of sending the address to the car with my iPhone. Therefore, I setup this web site, http://stm.selfip.net to do just that. All you gotta do, it to go there, type in ur address, enter your mbrace email (u only need to do this once, it will remember it), and hit send. Then hit the "i" button on your center console, and the address is downloaded to your navigation within a few seconds. You need an mbrace account for this to work, but all new cars have it. So, give it a try and let me know what you think. It's in "Beta" right now, so let me know if you notice any problems. If people like it, i'll make a new thread out of this. By the way, the site is optimized for the iPhone screen. I'm sure it'll work just fine with other phones too, but I haven't tested it. Read the instructions on the page, for more info.
ALSO - VERY VERY IMPORTANT - DON'T GO SENDING IT A BUNCH OF TIMES. Because every time you send an address it gets queued in your Mercedes navigation, and if u send too many, it'll take forever to download all of them. Don't say, I didn't warn u. |
