Just noticed that the 2012 E350 will not permit address input in the Navi once the car is in motion. I know it is a safety thing.

2007 Lexus E350 had this and I hated it.

2007 ML 350 and 2010 ML 350 did not have this safety override and I could enter the address while driving.

Anyway this safety default could be disabled? Any solutions from technically savvy folks.

Lol.....and I dont want to sell this 2012 E 350 and go back to older models...

Can you enter the information by voice? If not, plan ahead. Or carry a passenger. They can do it. I think. Check the manual.

No. Once the car is in motion no manual input will work.

I could input the destination in my 2012 E350 (Coupe) and my last 2009 C350Sport Sedan, using the voice control while the car was in motion.

I just pressed the voice button on the steering wheel (right side, top button) and said "Enter Destination", and then the voice system would guide me through the steps.

NavTV, I can watch DVDs and input address or do anything I would normally be able to do while not in motion

I have a special software that can control the navigation while I am driving. It is driven by voice control and can accept commands in two, even three languages. The software is located in the passenger seat and knows how to cook, do the laundry and clean the house. At night the software can be really really soft and hot. But sometimes if I misbehave, the software can act like a hardware and be very harsh to me. I love my software.

The built in feature on your car was built in for an important safety purpose. Live with it.

+1 Wanye, planning ahead is a lost art.......I see so many people GET in their car and then GET ON THE PHONE, and I'm thinking.....why couldn't you just call that person from the place you just left????

Totally agree with you. I was looking for a way that the passenger seat software could manually enter the address while in motion.

I can't imagine anyone actually trying to enter an address manually....it's too painful. Fortunately, voice seems to work well.....as long as you follow the directions.

From a safety point of view, the disabling of manual entry is pretty dumb.....even when you are entering by voice, you have to look at the screen to see which option you want...or to go thru help. I guess the lawyers will stop any entry that causes you to have to look at the screen next....and then the logical next step is to eliminate displaying the route on the screen because that also distracts you from looking at the road. Gotta love those lawyers....

Voice control can enter destinations even while in motion. Just say "Navigation" then "Enter Destination" and follow the lovely lady's prompts.

Thanks for the inputs. I havent tried the voice command yet. The voice command in 2007 Lexus 350 and ML 350 was poor.

Maybe technology has improved. I will give it a try.

I always use voice, find it much easier than trying to input with the keypad or controller knob.

Its actually pretty good but it will take a while before you get used to it. My kids have a lot of fun putting in the destinations on the Navi with the voice control. I have fun when they have fun...

Best chuckle thread in a long time.
There is a voice learning system built into the Voice Command section. Running through that should improve the system's ability to recognize commands. Also, if you have addresses asigned to your phone contacts, the nav system can be told to give you directions. Saves having to input the address again.

When using voice, may have to state "Correction" sometimes, although this may not present as an option. Example, mine never brings up a certain major street on the list, so I just say correction a couple of times and then it asks me to spell it out. After first three letters, it pops up! Wierd.
Only time you have to look at screen is when it brings up city and street lists.

Ya old thread..i had no problem entering address for the nav while car was in motion, but I was in the pass seat...we assumed it detected my considerable heftiness in the pass seat and allows operation?.

I use the voice function a lot but for some reason, it has a hard time understanding me when I say the word "two". I try saying it in every accent possible but it just doesn't understand me. When the car is not in motion then it has no problem understanding me when I say "two". It just does this when the car is going. I think with the combination of road noise and my voice it must sound different.

Anyways when this happens, I just pull over and enter it manually.

When I got my W212 a few weeks ago, I swear up and down that I could input addresses on the fly while driving ... well, no more. My stealership updated the "radio" software about two weeks ago and but it wiped out my nav settings so the two were at least in some fashion related.

Seems none of us can input addresses on the move, but in the thread below a poster seems to indicate the dealer might be able to over-ride it. It makes me wonder if my car had some magical secret software option selected before that allowed me to input on the road. I just called the stealership where I bought my car (out of state), but they had no idea what I was talking about. Ha, go figure.

The nav version in my '12 W212 is 2011/12 V6.0 ... unfortunately, it seems MY12 E is NOT compatible with Merc's Drive Kit Plus for Apple. Suppose it doesn't matter much in my case, but can you physically (not verbally) input addresses or destinations into DKP while driving?
