Cloudy, dull paint job on all rear parts after body shop repair

What is the warranty on the paint job from the body shop? It must be corrected by them or take them to court. Why spend your money on their poor paint job?

I would have a reputable detailer take a look at it. It may require partial repaint. Body work is always a pain for people who want the repair done right.

Interesting problem
Does the tint and color of the repairs panels match the non repaired panels?
If so, it would seem this is a clear coat issue.... I wonder if a polish first would solve the problem... Best bet is to go to a reputable shop ... Was the paint shop that did this a Benz authorized shop?

That is probably the saddest part about this story... the shop is right behind a Mercedes dealership and the dealership sends all of their clients their for body repair. The paint matches in color but is just dull looking and looks like it was unevenly sprayed. here's just one example of their quality work.... the rear window trim pieces were half an inch off.
Sounds like if unevenly sprayed you'll be shelling out money to get this re done ... Can your insurance company help you out or the woman's insurance company?

Go to another MB authorized body shop. Our car has that nano paint technology that the authorized body shop will know what to do. Also, they will normally spray paint the front and rear doors as well to make sure the pain/color are perfect match. They also don't use masking tape, they remove panels to avoid overspray. Trust me, been there and very happy with their work.

Silver is usually not that hard to get right either. White is near impossible to get right as the slightest variation is seen by the human eye very readily. I could not drive around a car that looked like that unless I paid half price. Sorry for your troubles dealing with this inept shop.

If they applied several coats of clear coat then you should be able to wet sand and buff it out to a high gloss. This would take about 2 or 3 hours at most . No overnight to do it. If they applied the wrong clear coat then it would need to be redone.

Praise the geniuses at Concour's Auto Saloon in San Antonio. The owner , Anthony, wet sanded all of the rear parts starting with 2000 grit and up and then did a buff and polish on the sanded parts and the rest of the vehicle for a uniform appearance. total damage? Only $500. The shine is back and I can't see a hint of dullness or uneven application of the paint now.. I will give Caliber Collison one more oppurtunity (their fourth attempt) to make the top chrome trim that runs along the Windows fully flush with the trim at the base of the Windows.. I can still stick my finger under it on both sides.. I feel like I almost have my old car back now. Pirelli Cinturato P7 All-Season Plus (which beat my mxm4s to a pulp), refinished all of the rims, dynamat through the trunk, and every outstanding issue (minus the window trim) has been corrected since the initial repair job was performed on the rear of the vehicle.

Wow! Can't believe I came across this thread. I too had Caliber Collision perform some work on the front bumper of my car. I thought it was just me, but I too have noticed how dull the paint looks compared to the rest of my car. Caliber performs nothing but garbage work. There was a broken fan blade that the VW service shop discovered months later when I took it in for what I thought was a warranty issue with my A/C. I know they guarantee they guarantee their work for life but does this cover the paint job as well?

Well, that stinks. Metallic paints can be difficult to lay down properly if not really good at it. Unfortunately, it appears they are not very good at it....

Unless the refinish of you Mercedes were paid by either parties insurance. I would raise hell with MBusa. No matter if Mercedes or Mercedes outsource shop does any work, Mercedes is liable for all imperfections. Good luck.

Avoid Caliber like the plague! They work on all types of cars, not just Mercedes, so they are not the experts on our cars. I don't know if Mercedes has their own collision shop, but when my VW Passat was in a wreck, I was referred to Caliber Collision, but instead went to the VW Collision Center where you can guarantee that they will use genuine OEM parts. You have no idea what you are getting with Caliber.

just keep in mind. silver is one of the hardest colors to match. im really fuzzy about my cars. even if others cant tell the difference, if I can see somethings off, i would get it fixed till they get it right. goodluck mate and hope you get your baby back soon...in the condition you want it to be.
