Radiator fan really loud on startup...
and I mean loud! Is this normal?
2014 E350 on warm starts (can't recall whether it is this loud on cold starts, though, as the wife takes it to work on her commute), and the radiator fan seems like it's blowing at hurricane-gale-force speed ...yeah, it's loud! It doesn't sound like anything like a bearing is "bad," and it does stop eventually (say, just over a minute or so?), but it's loud --and attention-getting enough-- to make me wonder if this is normal operation. What do you guys think? Maybe it's coinciding with our SoCal heatwave? But then, why is the fan spinning frantic just at startup? TIA!

I have noticed it can kick in a high speed when the car is already warm and I've got the AC blasting upon startup. But from in the car, I can't really hear it too much.
Sounds like it is still controlling fan speed as needed so you should be fine. If you're really concerned, post a video for folks to comment on.

The car is very hot when sitting parked, so when it's initially started there is a need for a lot of cooling, the fan will be running close to max power. Once the temperatures settle down with coolant circulating and such, the fan will back down to what's needed. Normal operation.
You are right though, they are super loud at full tilt.

OK, so I just confirmed today on cold startup (I can't confirm during the week since wife takes it to work after I'm already gone), and no fan noise. But I see the point that a hot car, in the garage heat soaking, will have elevated temps and I guess the car's various sensors are kicking the speed to hurricane F4 status for immediate cool down. Now I am curious if the fan will do so when the car is warm but not in the garage. BTW, this last couple of weeks has been upper 90-triple digits in SoCal, so it's all making sense. Thanks, guys ...appreciate it!

2014 E550-sold 😩
Not sure what your issue may be, but I agree that the fan noise in these cars is loud and like a damn jet taking off at times. It's embarrassing on s hot day to roll up to a stop light and watch pedestrians stare at you like you are in control of that fan which sounds like it is going to jump out of the hood at any moment. Lol

That's a trait of mercedes dating back to at least the W126. When you start them up warm the fans really spool up for the first few minutes. Makes identifying them by sound pretty easy.
Could be worse, mercedes could have just omitted to add a cooling system to the car like most bmws.

i didnt wanna go back to my car as i was embarrassed as people were looking. lol

From my experiences with my Infiniti and Mercedes, the cooling fan you're hearing is most likely responding to the air conditioning's need for cooling rather than engine's.
On my old 2004 M45, the cooling fan was terribly noisy, BUT it usually only kicked into high speed if I had the AC running. If I turned the AC off, the cooling fan dropped down to inaudible levels.
