2009 G55 tires...Summer and Winter????
Hi-
I need to replace all 4 tires on my 2009 G55. I live in the northeast US, so I deal with the extremes of all seasons. I'm debating between another set of all-season tires on the OEM rims, but also considering if there's a better option for using separate sets of summer and winter tires to fit on the OEM rims. I feel like the all-season tires are half-*** in all conditions (and bad in the snow).
Any thoughts on what's best in the tire market these days for all options (all-season, summer and winter)? Any drawbacks if I go with winter and summer options?
On the same note, does it make sense to switch the rims as well (and size) to better accommodate winter and/or summer tires?
I'm trying to find the best option to get the most out of the G55 in all conditions!
Thanks-
Rodger

Im out of Cali so I dont have too much insight with extreme snow/ice situations. However with our recent El Nino rain storms I will say that my All Season Firestone Destination LE2 outperformed my OEM Pirellis. They powered through every single situation to the point that my wife said she wants a set on her E55. They are super quiet, softer and blew me away in extreme rainstorm conditions as well as warm temperatures. Doesn't hurt that they were dramatically cheaper than the Pirellis as well. Not sure if this helps but thought id chime in.
I have the same 09 Stock 19s as you.

haven't had G that long but definitely planning on getting a different set of wheels tires. probably snow tires for winter.
my friend owns a g63 and my experience with him was less than pleasant in the snow, slides and has hard time getting out of snow. so all the off road capabilities went out the window with stiff summer tires in the freezing cold

That's my dilemma...seems like for living in the Northeast it needs separate tires for summer/winter. Even my driveway is a risk for sliding in light snow (even in low gear). There are not a lot of options for the OEM rims though, and I've seen a lot of info that switching rims on an AMG G can create issues.

i think ideal solution is to buy OEM 18" wheels or 19" or even G500 wheels and put snow rubber on it. i would say g500 wheels would be cheapest and best for snow tires.

I just bought and '08 and was wondering about tires myself. I'm in KS and my mechanic suggested all weather tires would be fine for here. But then I heard that all weathers don't last very long. Any thoughts on that?
