AMG Badge Rant
I apologize up front on this because I know we've discussed this before on other threads but today was the day that triggered the rant from me.
I was at the car wash in Ventura County when I saw a very new SL 550. It was truly a beautiful car but the damn thing had an AMG badge stuck on its @$$.
Here is a person that can pony up over $100k for the SL 550 and then has to go out and slap an AMG badge on his car.
I say if you want an AMG and if you can pony up the $100k for an SL then pony up the money for an AMG because the people that know are not impressed.
As the saying goes "No engine, No badge". Pretty simple isn't it!

WTH we all need a good laugh now and then. These people are clowns within a group of people who know what is real. Laugh with me.

Just driving home and I saw a CLK 550 AMG Cab. I then remembered that some dealers add the AMG badges, the side skirts, wheels etc. So maybe we can't blame the drivers but perhaps should blame the dealers.

Yeah that's probably true!
The thing is that when someone badges a car with an AMG badge it does a few things.
1) Real AMG owners just laugh or get pissed off.
2) It cheapens the true AMG
3) The AMG badging doesn't make your ride go any faster and you can't back up what you're advertising.
If you're embarrassed that you don't have an AMG and you think you can fool some people so be it. If you have an AMG "trim" on you car you still don't have an AMG.

I bought a 2003 S500 4MATIC with the AMG exterior package. The previous owner removed the 4MATIC plate and replaced it with a AMG plate. I could care less what plate is on the car- as lomhg as it runs nice and I enjoy it. The plates on a car have no meaning to some of us...

Yea I'm not a fan of false badging - unless it is clearly done in humor.
I had a 528i with M Sport package (not an M5) and the previous owner had front license plate with the M logo on it.
I promptly took it off. My son took the M badge off of the plate and stuck it on the tailgate of his beat up Ford Ranger pickup, as a joke. If anyone really thought he was trying to emulate some kind of BMW M Pickup, they had to be really clueless.
I don't mind if someone debadges a car, leaving someone to wonder what model it might be. The debadging is sometimes a cleaner look, but I prefer to leave my E350 badge on.
I don't buy fake watches or fake cars.
