Different Airmatic problem than most? GL450
I have a problem with my 2008 GL450 with 112,000 miles on it. The Airmatic malfunction light came on while driving, but seemed fine. The next morning both of the front bags were empty and won't fill up, same malfunction light on the dash. The rears were still inflated. I tried pushing the raise vehicle button to lift the truck, but it still wouldn't lift, front or rear. Now all of the sudden the compressor is very noisy so I thought maybe it is defective and not providing air. I put the front of the truck body on jack stands and put jack stands under the control arms at approximately ride height. I removed the air tube from the air block coming from the pump and it is providing air pressure so I put the tube back onto the block. Next step was to spray soapy water everywhere I could think and look for leaks. I can't find any leaks, I sprayed the top of both struts, the bags themselves and the distribution block as well. Moving to the next step I removed all of the air tubes coming out of the block and started the car. There is no air coming out of any of the holes in the block. I pulled the tube coming from the pump and it is still pumping air. Does it sound like the block is bad? Not sure what to do next. I've been searching the forum for hours and can't find a similar problem. Thanks in advance.

Out Of Control!!
Get on with your life and get a scan that will quickly locate the problem----then if you want fix the car your self.
FYI; That's a very detailed and complicated system and there are loads of potential fault areas with an eight year old car!!

Out Of Control!!
A little late now ,but I would have found someone with factory or equal diagnostic software such as DAS Xentry--much more through with more depth!!

sounds to me like both air bags are out, and possibly your compressor. It depends on how long your bags have been bad if they are bad. If they were bad for a while it probably was taxing the compressor and it possibly went bad. I would say to change the bags first.

have somebody with das perform compressor pressure test. you will know what gives very quickly.
air coming out of the compressor means nothing. it might blow air, but not be able to provide steady pressure. a compressor pressure test will determine that.

You nailed it. The compressor was so noisy I knew I was going to have replace it either way so I started with that. It fixed my problem it appears. I let it sit overnight and it didn't drop at all. I'm going on day two with it seemingly back to normal. Fingers crossed.
