2014 GL- Media Interface Cable?
Recently took delivery of a newly-built 2014 GL450 and was surprised to find that the Media Interface Cable (I think that's what it's called- I'm referring to the iPhone and other connection cable located in the armrest storage between the front seats) still does NOT have a connection that works for an iPhone 5.
Is this correct or did I get an older model cable for a new car?

I agree we should at least get the option on which connector we get.

We also picked up our GL this week.
After looking at the MB Lightning cable I wasn't sure if it would fit the cases we have on our phones. After reading about problems folks were having with generic adapter cables (error messages, no charging, etc.) I purchased the Apple 30-pin to Lightning cable ($39). It works perfectly and fits into the cases. FWIW, our new build apparently has the updated Command software installed.

Sometimes apple takes its time to give permission for these changes. Mb would use the updated connector if could. This happens a lot with proprietary stuff and is quite annoying.

Mercedes is choosing not to include the new one with vehicles. I would guess for supply reasons. It would be dumb if the old 30-pin comes with the 2015 models that have the Apple iCar (or whatever it is called) interface, so I expect them to include the new part then.

I don't think either companies do this intentionally or for specific profit per customer. These are the results of massive deals between companies that are negociated down to the end result which in this case is no lightning connector standard on gl2014my. My 2cents

Are you guys able to get video working through the 30 pin adapter? I've tried with both (lightning Mercedes cable and 30 pin adapter) and none work with iPhone 6+. However, no issues with iPod classic or iPhone 4S.
Edit: I mean the video doesn't work, there is no problem with just audio (music, apps, etc)

And also a MB thing.
Specifically because the Lightning port on newer Apple devices does not include an analog video signal like the older 30-pin Apple devices. Lightning only provides digital so even the Lighting-to-30pin adapter does not work as there is not a signal to convert in the first place.
Unfortunately, the X166 GL requires analog video. Kinda behind the times in a digital world (even in 2014), IMHO.
Just saying.....
