When is the GL due for a facelift? Complete refresh?
I recognize that the answer to this is likely speculation (unless your Googling has shown something that mine hasn't). As best as I can tell, the GL could be due for a facelift in MY2016 given the history of the X164 which got a facelift in 2010 after being introduced in 2007.
Thoughts? Speculation? Arguably the most direct competitor to the GL is the Audi Q7 which was released in MY2006 and got a facelift in 2009 but won't be redesigned until MY2015. While I have a GL on order, I may not take delivery if the Q7 comes out in time and looks the business. I'd rather have a vehicle that looks as current as possible for as long as possible and it seems that that may favor the Audi.

Apparaently a refresh has been spied undergoing testing.

If weighing against alternatives with just brought to market features then perhaps the new volvo xc-90 is worth looking at.

Thanks for sharing, ogre!
The spy shots look GREAT. It almost looks like a slightly tamer version of the current 550/AMG fascia and rear.
Given that the 2015s will be delivered next month, are we sure it's not a 2016?

2015s delivered next month will have a build date stamped on them '2014', but they are known as the 2015 model even though this model arrived in 2014. However in some markets this same model is the 2014 model because it arrived in 2014.
The point is that how a model is described differs and can be a little silly really. I think this is the model that will arrive in 2015, and the website in question is describing the model that will arrive in 2015 as the 2015 model.

Personally - I think MY 2016 will be a interior "facelift/update" year and MY2017 will be exterior "facelift".
Several of the "spy" photo's I have seen seem to readily confuse ML - which will "lift" one year earlier - with GL's..

Hmmm. If my 2015 arrives without this new facelift I'll be tempted to decline delivery. Frankly, the front of the 2013-2014 GL350/GL450 isn't very pretty. I'll be ticked if I spent that money on a 2015 and missed the facelift by a year.
Any more speculation about MY2015s having the new front fascia? I'm new to MB and have no idea what the testing to release cycle looks like.

Phish - frankly the MY15, which will be launched in the US end-Aug/beg-Sept does not have any significant interior or exterior changes - do a forum search for MY2015 Dealer Order Guide which I have posted.
No one will "know" about MY16, US delivery end-August/beg-Sept 2015, until (1) Nov round of US auto shows where MB can decide to show-a-little or decide to-show-a-lot, and (2) confirmed by preliminary Dealer Order Guide specs which will be released to dealers late Spring April/May.
The "i-spy-photos" aren't accurate gauge, at all, really..

Phish - those spy shots suggest they are trying something new. Something that may never make production at all but definitely would not make production in time for your order. As fabbrisd1 says nothing is definite. All a spy shot says is they are considering a change. Not if it will happen at all, or be rejected in the form they are considering.
I would think it sounds likely there will be a minor exterior change for MY2016 .. but not definite, it could come a year later. In any case the exterior changes on the spy shots are very minor. If there is anything significant based on a change like that, it is under the skin.

A link to the revised display on the new M (or GLE), this will also make the '2016' (available some time 2015) GL apparently.

The other 2016 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class models will come with its same engine units. The 2016 Mercedes-Benz GL550 will stay with its 5.5-liter V-8 engine, which currently delivers 382 hp, and the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GL450 will keep its 4.7-liter V8, but the 335 hp might be boosted a bit

Although this article is muffed up a bit, there are multiple sites stating something similar. This is likely true if you look at the direction of other models, E, C and M are introducing 400s.

The ML and GL appear to be headed for a facelift for the 2016 model year in the U.S. New upright screens as shown above, and other new toys such as the touchpad. I don't know about engines, I doubt they'll change much. They might also be renamed, GLE (ML) and GLS (GL) to fit in with the sedans that they're priced alongside.
