Help with options on CPO GL550

Hello Gents !

New forum member here, been lurking around for the past few weeks.
About myself: 37yrs,married,2 kids-3.5yr and 1.5yr. Currently drives a 2015 Audi SQ5 and a 2008 E92 335i.

Been thinking of replacing E92 with a 7 seater for family - so here are 2 CPOs I am currently interested in:

2014 GL550 - Active Curve System + Rear Entertainment + other regular options for $64K - at a very distant MB dealer .

2014 GL550 - Driver Assist Pkg + other regular options for $56K - at a local non-MB dealer.

Other regular options - pano roof, heated steering, chrome pkg being common b/w the two.

I and my kids really don't care about rear seat entertainment system. Me personally don't care about blind spot system but my wife would for this big a truck.

So, what would y'all suggest/recommend ?

P.S.If I have to shell out $60K+,more like closer to $65K, I am also not ruling out 2017 XC90,having understood that both are very different trucks, with an underwhelming engine in XC90.But I can always do Polestar

Thanks Much in advance !!!

I've had my GL550 for about 8 month's and love it minus a few quirks. The first being the chassis creaking by the drivers door when the truck is flexed, a rear exhaust shield rattle, and the pre-safe beeping when the sun and alot of light reflects off aluminium road signs.

However, i don't have active curve. From what i have read here on the forums, its definitely worth entertaining. I drive mine pretty hard from time to time when i'm alone, and she definitely gets up and goes. Go ahead and test drive both then make a decision good luck!

Since you are willing to consider the XC90, perhaps you can consider the GL450 instead of 550. That will save you $10-$15k right off the bat. Even the GL450 engine is significantly more powerful than the 2.0 engine in the XC90 T6 in torque, HP as well as 0-60.

With a 2014 CPO GL450, you are also looking at roughly $15k less than a brand new 2017 XC90 T6 Inscription with options.

Of course the GL550 looks much better than the GL450.

Factory rear entertainment is becoming a thing of the past with the iPad. Purchasing from a non MB dealer isn't such a big deal if it is CPO'd. Just my 2 cents.

Ok, just test drove the one at my local non-MB dealer. It has 2 owners, the 2nd owner puchased it as a CPO at MB dealer, then traded it in at this non-MB dealer.
So would CPO warranty be transferred to me? Would I still be able to add on 1/2 years genuine MB ELW(does it qualify since it's at non-MB dealer)?
And finally, does 2/3 owners in such a short time raise any flag?

jlim - I get it but if it's gonna be a GL it's gonna be a 550
The itch towards XC90 is to really try something new,as my stable so far has been just German. Also the fact that interior is much more plush, high end and what not on XC90 vs the bland GL.

Thanks!

A gaggle of MB's
Remaining CPO warranty is transferable from owner to private buyer with small admin fee - remaining CPO warranty is canceled when sold/traded to a dealer.

Ahh, then this vehicle will not have the CPO since it was traded at a dealer.
But can I at least add ELW onto this as it is still <50K miles?

I bought my GL350 from a non-MB dealer with less than 50K miles, and I was able to purchase an extended limited warranty from a MB dealer.

Get the VIN and call a few MB dealers for ELW eligibility.

Have you looked at the new Q 7? Great vehicle and family hauler. You could get one for about the same price as CPO GL 550. If the Q7 diesel variant was available I'd already have one.

No matter how many times I looked at Q7, it just didn't appeal to me.Looking at XC90 though which has better interior and layout.
And seriously the only other Audi I'd own in a heartbeat would have to be RS7

Unless the vehicle is flagged in the Mercedes online system for some reason, I think you should be able to. Only the MB Sales dept can verify that. Please note many MB dealers really dislike owners purchasing their vehicles from non-MB dealers and will not even quote for it. I recommend you reach out to one of the recommended dealers here. My successful warranty purchase experience was with Tafel MB and I purchased my vehicle at an LR dealership with just a hair under 50K miles on the clock.

I understand the apprehension with the Q7. But the tech in it is absolutely heads and heels over what MB has on offer in the current GL.

I would go for the one with the Active Curve so long as you're not pushing your budget and are OK with making the trip and returning empty-handed should the vehicle not meet your expectations. Does either one have the designo package?

Thanks for all the responses !

Well, I have decided not to pursue both of these and started looking exclusively for designo appointed vehicles. I again have two that I shortlisted, both designo but one with driver assist and the other without and no active curve on both. There is a difference of about $6K in price, not too concerned with mileage and all. So is driver assist pkg and active curve really worth it?

I'm a bit hazy in my memory, but don't all GL550s come with Driver Assist ? No clue about Active curve since I've not experienced it myself, but I have heard good things about it.

Driver assist is an option.
