Check Engine Light
Just curious about the GLK check engine light
Mine came on today and it's been very cold (-25 c) the past week or so. I started the vehicle up after work and it started fine but then the check engine light came on. Vehicle idles fine and ran fine so i have just ignored the light for the last few hours.
I havent put any gas in recently - so not a gas cap issue
I used to have a Honda Prelude and all i did to reset the engine light was disconnect the battery for a minute or so and that reset the check engine light.
will this work on GLK?
Do i then need a stereo code to get the radio/cd player to work after disconnecting the battery?
Assuming all is ok with the GLK (i will monitor how it runs for 10 days)- how can i reset the light without heading to the dealer ?
Thanks

No... you need a scanner. However sometimes the light will cycle off in a few days to as long as a month. The fault will still be recorded and logged into the car's memory so the next time you're at the dealer, the fault code will be read. But in the mean time, if you need to go for an emissions test, it will fail until the fault code is erased.

Thanks GLKKa2H-
I checked the vehicle status messages and it showed "0 messages". I guess i'll wait to see if it clears itself or take it in for my next oil change and have the MB dealer have a look.
Worries me that the really cold weather we're having triggered this probably. Hope this doesnt become a pain in the butt.
Thanks

If you have any Autozone's in the area they will read the code for you for free!
Thanks GLKKa2H-

Go to your local Autozone parts store. They scan your vehicle for free. Post the codes.
FYI, external temperature is not a trigger for the CEL. Something internal is not performing to the programmed specs and the computer sees it as a fault.

Thanks for everyones input.... this whole check engine light was bugging me alot. This morning i started up the GLK and the light is no longer on. Bizarre... but i'm going to attribute it to the colder temps setting it off somehow.

The car I was using until we got the GLK drove me nuts with on and off CEL. It would come on and then go off by the time I got it to the dealer. The dealer couldn't get any codes with CEL off. If it comes on go directly to the dealer.

Scanner and Thermostat
I had the check engine light come on and thought it was the gas cap, replaced it with a new one and at the same time bought a Actron Scanner CP9575, i had another model of Actron and it would not connect to the car, the CP9575 works just fine on this mercedes and has a lot of nice features. It told me that thermostat had failed and needed to be replaced, seems like a common theme, but nice to know what the real issue is when the light comes on and before I go to the dealer.
Question has anyone here replaced their thermostat is it a fairly straight forward DIY?
Thanks

took it over to Penske in West Covina, just over 50,000 miles but its covered under the 12 month ext on my CPO. They said about 3 hours to let the coolant cool, and replace the thermostat. Found a video on YouTube, definitely a DIY for those willing, but since its under warranty ill let the dealer take care of it.

I'm taking my '13 GLK 350 in Tuesday for the CEL. My service advisor wasn't too worried about it when I spoke to him before Christmas. It's not the gas cap. The light is on constantly.
