Ashtray Removal?
Hello everybody..
I have an 02 ML55, and the other night I dropped something behind the folding ashtray. I am unable to retrieve it. Is it a huge pain to remove the wood center console insert (with the power windows switches on it)?
Does anybody have any info about how to remove it?

that is a good question, my wife used to stick business cards in the ashtray and some fell in the back, and it jammed the whole mechanism. The dealer was going to charge $500 to have it fixed, so I assume it's a big job.

It's NOT hard guys as I recently had to replace my entire window switch assembly....here's how:
1) Remove all contents of center console storage and remove 2 torx screws
2) Remove ashtray and surround around radio but popping it off with a flathead
3) Remove rubber liner in front of shifter area cubby hole
3) Start at the rear and slowly pop off the wood center piece (held in place with clips all underneath so be gentle)
4) Disconnect wiring harneses
hope this helps
