iPod input
We currently have a loan ML 350 and the dealers keep the manuals. It has the iPod input in the glove box, but I can't seem to get it to work. This car does not have the command system, so I can not find a button for it, only CD, CDC, and Radio. Are they putting the input in all the cars they make now whether or not you pay for the option. Could it just be the input jack with out any other wiring?

I got mine to work by plugging it in at the glove box and then hit AUX in the Audio mode.
You can't control it from the steering wheel but can hear it at a reduced volume from the audio controls.
To have it hooked up the right way will cost you at the dealer and I've heard from other posts the sound quality isn't that great.
Do a search for prior posts. I'm sure you'll find a bunch. It's a popular subject.
Good Luck.

WAH63, are you not in the US? I have never heard of an ML350 without Comand. Also, please clarify if the loaner you are driving has the actual iPod 30 pin adaptor (which connects to the iPod) or the AUX jack which connects to the headphones jack. They way these two work is a bit different.
PAULY, from your post it looks like you have the AUX jack (because you say it cannot be controled from the steering wheel). I had the AUX jack in my ML before I had the 30 pin installed and never had volume problems. Make sure you turn up the volume in your iPod and that the iPod's volume limiter (located in the settings menu) is off.

Help
I have the Original Ipod connector in the glove box as it came with the car.
Bought the car ML 350 in December 07 but only last weekend my son brought his Ipod to try the system. Plugged it in the glove box connector and used the AUX selection on the audio screen of the command .
It worked and did not have a volume problem and the steering wheel control will adjust it up and down. But you can not see anything on the command screen . No playlist, no name of the song or singer or a way to go back and repeat a song.
It seems that once you change the audio to the radio, the Ipod does not stop and even you do not hear it continues to run in the glove box.
I checked the manual and did not find any infos.
Is this normal?
Thanks

I have the 30 pin white connector.
I meant "original" in the sense that it came with the car as an option and not installed by me or somebody else.

Hey NL, you are correct in most of your assumptions. The MB iPod interface doesn't display anything on the Comand screen (). However, you can manage the iPod through the steering wheel controls including displaying songs, folders (called playlists), albums, etc.
Your first step after you connect the iPod and press AUX on the Comand is to scroll through the Multifunction Display on the instrument cluster (with the steering wheel buttons) to get to the iPod display.
After you reach the iPod display, you'll be able to operate it through the steering wheel. As it goes, yesterday someone in the W211 forum asked how to operate the iPod. I posted an answer here. The instructions are the same for the E and ML.
The one thing where you are incorrect is that the iPod indeed stops when you select another sound source (Radio, CD, SAT). The only function where the iPod continues to run is if your phone rings (assuming you have BT). In that case the iPod will continue to run while you're on the phone.
Hope this helps!

ipod shuffle in ml350
Is there any reason the small I pod shuffle wont work in the ml350 factory set up using a griffin dock adapter. The connections seem solid but all I get is Ipod error. It works fine in the aux jack using the proper lead but of course no display or control except volume. Thanks

Anyone get this thing to work with the shuffle and the MB IPOD adaptor?
