Montoya picks up his SL65
Well, while Juan Montoya may or may not be thrilled with his future F1 ride
with Mercedes power, he's at least taken the mantle with his street version
of his Mercedes affiliation for next year.
The dealership which I buy my cars from, Mercedes-Benz of Fort Lauderdale
(Florida, USA), had me know that none other than one Juan Pablo Montoya
came in recently to take delivery of his new MB SL65. It was something of a spectacle.
Juan lives just south of here in Miami, which has larger MB dealerships, but
the one in Lauderdale has ranking for special cars there. They always have a
Maybach or two, and the dealership and overall AutoNation (largest USA
dealer group) owner, Mr. Wayne Huizenga, is said to be readying for his
McLaren SLR.
Given that this car has only recently came out of the rumor mill to now
being built and shipped in limited quantity, Juan must have had his tabs on
this car for some time now; probably just as soon as he agreed to drive for
Mercedes-McLaren last year. (Maybe it was even a perk from MB. That would be saying something, because Huizenga purportedly had to pay for his SLR, and he owns the dealership and its network.)
The SL65 that Juan has is really special. Of course, let's hope its not more special than the other MB he'll be in next year.
If it is, the F1 gods have really turned their heads on the former sanctity
of Ron Dennis, as they are Frank Williams.
Juan has already started his embrace of Mercedes. Now, can MB embrace him?
With all the resources that MB is putting into their program, this ought to
make for significant strides forward. But, then again, witness Toyota with
their whopping budget. Juan won a championship here in the states with
Honda's big budget, and he could have had another with Toyota's budget if he
stayed in CART. (Da Matta promptly collected that, then fell on hard times
with Toyota F1 this year.)
All this said, maybe taking the keys of the SL65 is a prelude of good things
to come for both Juan and MB.
After all, if MB really picks up their program (as some feel they truly
will, and soon), and Juan takes a new "lease" on life with them, perhaps
there are some special things on the horizon with the packaging. Heck, Juan
could even be Ron's darling next year, especially as Ron is currently having
his spats with Kimi.
Next year could be the year for Mercedes' return to glory.

I never been a big fan of Juan. I alway thought he was some what of a rude kind of guy thats a little lacking in sportmanship. Dont get me wrong he is one of the best drivers in F1. Hopefully he can help maclaren get back up to #1.

Two SL65's at MB of Fort. Lauderdale
The same place where Juan bought his SL65 (loaded to the gills), which was at MB of Fort Lauderdale, I noticed not one but two editions of this special car.
One was in the showroom and one was (believe it or not) outside in the service overflow parking lot. It was there in plain view to see (even touch if we wanted to - of course we didn't) under the bright lights of the dealership.
(The facility is under constant human security.)
If it were mine I would have preferred the car be inside. Nevertheless, the car was an absolute pristine sight to look upon. The wheels have this special finish all their own. Really elegant and exquisite. Another man who was looking at the car with us (all of us of course with hands folded being our backs in view of the monitoring system) said he saw the car the other day with a girl driving it.
Could this have been Mrs. Montoya? It did have Florida plates.
But who's to say? This town is loaded with cars of this caliber. Last night alone I saw a dozen Ferraris, a Bentley GT, an Aston Martin Volante, a Maybach and more...
The car was truly something.

wonder why he doesnt get an SLR...
I have often wondered this myself.
Perhaps because he felt the SL65 was a decent interim car until he's actually under contract and actively enaged with his MB F1 ride (next year). Michael Schumacher had a consultant's role with Ferrari's Enzo Supercar, perhaps Juan wishes something like this for him and the SLR (both have F1 DNA), until he does, the SL65 fits the bill...?
In time, he'll have an SLR. He probably has the order on one already in the works.
Maybe he wanted the one that went to dealership owner (Wayne Hiezinga - AutoNation) but lost the bidding battle and rank... He'll have one soon.
