SL65 07-08 LED DRL Fog Conversion or OEM LED DRL parts only for all cars
Up for sale is an LED DRL conversion that fits in the stock fog locations of the 07-08 SL65 bumper (or SL55's with Performance Package). When I purchased my vehicle, the owner had done this home-made custom modification and it's a pretty nice setup. It uses OEM Mercedes components, and he modified the stock fog grilles with another set of DRL grilles and tied them together to look like one unit.
Unfortunately, I now realize that I prefer the amount of output that the stock 55w fog's give in comparison to these LED DRL's (they are not as bright because they are designed as DRL's only).
The lights look amazing on the car, but will require modification to the bumper. You will need to trim some of the bumper fog light area and a small piece on both the outboard edge and top edge. It can easily be done with a dremel tool. As of now, you will also need to trim the LED trim so it doesn't interfere with the bumper. (In my case, the owner chose to pop a hole in the bumper instead of cutting the trim piece, which I completely advise against, as I'm now trying to figure out how not to buy a whole new front bumper). I've also had a heck of a time trying to find the driver side fog grille, since it is on backorder worldwide and no yards I've found yet have one. And they only made 120 or so of these cars in 2008. So definitely KEEP your stock fog grilles, do not cut them up!
You can easily wire these to your corner lights, and in my car I did not receive any errors on the dash because of it. Also included is a set of large resistors that have custom pigtails you can plug into your stock fog plugs. This is in the event you pull the headlight switch to turn on the fogs - the dash won't show a bulb-out error. In my opinion, I wouldn't run these because I do not like large hot resistors just sitting there burning energy at a high temperature. The easy solution is: don't turn on the fog light switch.
Here are the part numbers and prices of these items from RMEuropean:
1) 221-820-18-56 (LED): $206.93
2) 221-820-17-56 (LED): $206.93
3) 204-885-28-74 (Trim): $110.23
4) 204-885-27-74 (Trim): $110.23
5) PNs? (Wire harnesses): $ price unknown
6) 230-885-11-53 (SL fog grille to modify): ~$85-145 *Currently out of stock worldwide
7) 230-885-12-53 (SL fog grille to modify): ~$85-145
8) PNs? (CL drl grilles to cut for mesh surrogate): $ price unknown
9) PNs? (Large resistors): $ price unknown
As you can see, there's easily $630+ in the first four items alone, plus the wire harnesses (they are specific small connectors for these LEDs), plus another ~$200 in the SL fog grilles, plus probably another $200? in the CL grills for the plastic mesh. So you've easily got $1000 in parts here, not counting the amount of time it would take to put this together from scratch (specifically, how to fit it in the bumper and how to tediously make the custom grilles). I will include all the little brackets and screws as well.
This is meant for the 07-08 SL65 bumper, but may fit other years (05-06) with modification to the grilles. It may fit other vehicles with custom modification as well. Or you may just want the OEM MB LED's and trim, up to you. All of these parts are original Mercedes, they are not replicas (Depo brand for example).
Asking $500 + $45 for shipping and Paypal fees. This will ship via USPS Priority Mail with insurance in the US. If you are international, please let me know so I can recalculate the shipping costs. I've gone ahead and mummified the parts in bubble wrap so they'll be safe during shipping. If you have any questions please let me know by sending me a PM or an email to Viper98912@gmail.com. Thanks.
