New owner of a R63
The wife wanted a minivan, so as a good husband, I went and got her one. I bought it in Michigan and drove it home to NYC. 900 miles and no problems. It drives nicely, feels tight, no unusual noises and everything except the rear entertainment system works perfectly (it give an invalid disc error)
It is definitely a nice vehicle for long drives. I is a great cruiser and it will surprise some M3's and Corvettes along the way.
I will post up some pictures later. It is filthy from the drive home.

Well, first off, hearty congrats on the sweet ride. I would like to know what procedures you are going to carry out on the detailing. Since I am also on the verge of detailing my car, and due to sheer neglect, it has somewhat lost its sheen. Will be watching this space. Thanks!

Trev,
HAHAHAHA, I do not like the rims; but, my wife really likes them. So we will see.
Suzan,
I am not an expert detailer. I generally stick with one product line for the detailing process. I have had good success with Adam's polishes. Basically, 2 times a year, I wash the car, clay it, polish, seal and the next day either go over it with a carnuba wax or a glaze. The interior is no magic. I use lexol on all the leather and Tuff Stuff for the carpets.
Each week, I give them a quick wash and blow them dry with a leaf blower (10 minutes) and once a month, I give them a more detailed wash and wax with a carnuba wax.
It sounds like alot; but, if they are kept clean, the washes and waxes in between are really quick.

Fantastic find and great price! I saw this listed on eBay and cars.com. Just not a fan of the bling bling rims but otherwise great pick up!

I am not a fan of the rims either. Honestly, these are too rare to pass up because of the rims. On the plus side, they are 22" Forgiatos so at least the are a quality rim that has some value in the used market (with some curb rash)
I was able to get it for below their buy it now price. The nice thing is the everything except the rear DVD player works and there are no rattles. I have driven it around NYC since I got it and no squeaks or rattles, it sounds like a new car.

Actually, I searched for about 3 months and was willing to go anywhere in the US to pick it up. I got lucky, mine came up on EBay and I believe Cars.com.
I called and left a deposit on it sight unseen. Then flew out, got a clean pre purchase inspection at the local MB dealer, paid and drove it home.
They seem to go for sale a few times a year. You just have to be willing to wait and travel.

With only about 44 R63s ever sold in the USA, you really have to be patient (and lucky) to find one in reasonable condition. And the condition part will be harder as time wears on . . . Good luck on finding a very special vehicle.
Brian:
Congrats on your purchase. I am a big fan of the R63 . . . a unique (in a great way) vehicle that is the rarest of all AMGs. I agree with others that you may have to consider changing the wheels . . . GenericSNxx's stock 21 inch (for European R63s) look really good. I hope you and your wife have many years of happy motoring.

Well, I bought a set of winter rims off a GL450. (I hope the TPMS work, they are off a 2010.) Now I need to find a set of AMG rims or something that I like for summer tires.
If anyone wants the 22" Forgiato rims, I would be willing to make a deal.
