I don't know what the codes say.Join www.benzworld.com,there are some codes for w140s.
However most ac problems are caused by condenser in car leaking.People have used super seal with good sucess.

4, 60: roll down all four windows and go 60. I'm reliably advised by my mechanic and an a/c repair shop, as well as many commenters, that the repair is more than the car is worth, replaces a fatally flawed system with a fatally flawed system, and the car will rattle from the radical r&r operation that guts the old guts of the interior, which never go back as they were. The goo will glob up the rest of the hvac system. Lest you think me unfeeling, I love my W140. I just got back from a long hot trip, San Diego to LA and back today, with friends who are not as heat tolerant as I am, but they like the safety and comfort of the S class. It is what is, not was.

Well I had just filled the freon to bring it up to correct pressure but I've heard you have to have the system reset after you do this and also some added information is my EC light is always on and will not go off it's a 1996 s420. I've been going windows down moonroof open for a couple months sense I learned the AC had stopped working
