2003 W220 owners- aux jack is a good thing
Purchased a 2003 S500 last spring. Was very bummed about no built in satellite radio offered on 04-06 W220s. I currently live in very rural central PA, and almost no local radio options that are worth listening to. At our home, we are not in range of broadcast TV (digital), had no idea that central PA had so little options for free radio and no options for over-the-air TV.
Started using the aux jack for not only SIRIUS, but also Pandora and Tune-In radio. It works just fine, and saves money and not wasted resources as we already have three SIRIUS vehicle subscriptions with only two drivers.
No need fretting over not having built in satellite radio option, the aux jack with android phone works well and overs a lot more supplemental options over straight satellite radio.

It also works with an IPOD. You just don't get the songs being played on the command screen but the steering wheel buttons still work. 03 was the only year MB included a AUX Input.

I agree, the cassette adapter does a really nice job. Some apps are better than others. The "I heart radio" app delivers a better quality sound than the pandora app.

Hi, I'm looking to DIY an AUX input for my 2000 ML320. I found your post saying to PM you. If you can help, I'd appreciate it. I'm handy with soldering and electronic work. I happen to have the Bose system. I used to use a tape deck adapter, but the tape deck no longer works. Thanks in advance.

A BT cassette adapter pairs wirelessly to the media player so no messy wire, but requires occasional re-charging.
The best solution for a 220 is a MoBridge Bluetooth/iPod module. It installs on the fiber optic network (replaces the cd changer) and adds streaming audio, a dedicated iPod connection and an aux in. Sound quality is excellent but it's a $700 piece.
