Throttle Positon Sensor - Is this the right fix?

I have just acquired a one owner 2001 S500 with 49,000 miles.

I have the same symptoms that have been attributed to a bad Throttle Position Sensor in that I will lose the ability to accelerate while driving and will have to wait for the motor to "catch up" to the gas pedal. This will also cause the "check engine" MIL.

However, the MIL will clear on it's own after driving and not having a slow acceleration incident. I have found that the slow acceleration seems to be triggered by pushing the gas pedal past the kick point. If I don't floor it than it functions normally. But I can't live like that.

I have read a billion threads on this issue but haven't found one that mimics my situation. My first instinct is to replace the TPS anyway but I just wanted to make sure there wasn't another issue I wasn't aware of. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Replace the fuel filter, your description matches a failing filter.

Yes, that's exactly what I thought!
Rule of thumb on our car's:
First try replacing parts that are less expensive, worked for me alway's that way...and I saved a ton of money

Did replacing the fuel filter fix your issue? I'm having a similar issue (https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...e-driving.html)

Ended up replacing the TPS with a used one off eBay, car ran great after that. Wish I still had it.

One other question. We’re you able to change just the sensor or did you have to change the entire throttle body?
