"soft toouch" rubber on dash trim
Greetings all-
I have a w220 with damaged soft touch rubber surrounding the headlight switch (bezel), and am wondering as to what any of you have found to be a successful remedy. It appears that someone previously rubbed it with a liquid that somewhat dissolved it the soft rubber surface. In looking at others for sale on ebay/salvage yards, they all seem to be worn or scratched as well.
1. is there a part number for hust the bezel surrounding the switch, or do I have to geet the whole thing? Part number?
2. it seems that this will happen again to a degree, with or without the dosolving liquid. Is this truly the case?
3. are there any other suggested solutions to this that any of you have found?
Thanks in advance,
D

They all do it with age. On that piece, the only way it will look 100% is a new one. You could try the methods used on here to address the sticky steering wheel buttons, it's basically the same issue. I don't know what the finished product would look like though.

There is a clear coat on a lot of the plastic parts on our cars. It gets all gummy, sticky, after time. Rub the nasty funk off with a rag and some Goo Gone, or gasoline even. You can scrape the bulk of it off with your finger nail when the goo coat goes sticky.
