Cool option to have.

Does anybody know if the 308 option that is available in Europe for a rear seat refrigerator behind the rear armrest can be fitted to the US version (S550)?

There are a number of euro options it would be "cool" to have here... It's still amazing the (MB blessed) rear seat entertainment system is not an option in the US either...(It should have been from launch - every other high sedan has this... (LS460, 7-series etc)

Cool Option

Agreed - but the rear seat entertainment package would require some major surgery to retrofit. I'm thinking the fridge should be fairly easy to install. The question is where could you source the part and wiring diagrams?

The fridge is "no tools installation" if the car has a ski sack. Otherwise a lot of parts would need to be changed.

Ski Sack?

Not sure what a Ski Sack is but I am sure that no vehicle in the US has one. In the UK they have a Ski-bag as an option, but it is not required to have the fridge.

Not coincidentally, the ski sack is not available in the US either. That's so that MBUSA doesn't have to stock the U-shaped gas tank that makes retrofitting either option such a big deal.

Same thing. You can't have them both. They use the same space that normally has a fuel tank in it. Either one comes with an alternate fuel tank that has a notch that creates space for the pass-through.

Am I to understand that the US model's fuel tank sits between the back seat and the rear storage compartment? I have an empty compartment where the coolbox and Ski Sack would go. Doesn't seem there is that much space between the seat back and the rear of the compartment.

See Below -

Removing and fitting the coolbox
You can remove the coolbox for maintenance purposes or to fit the skibag more.

ScrewsFlapPlug
To remove: switch off the coolbox.
Disconnect plug .
Unscrew both screws .
Pull out the coolbox.
Close flap .
To install: swing flap to the side until it is locked in place by the magnets.
Insert the coolbox.
Tighten both screws .
Connect plug .

The fuel tank takes up the space at the rear of the trunk. Here are the two fuel tanks, W220 version.

Thank you for the information. I didn't know there were two different fuel tank designs. I guess we get a larger fuel tank in the US.

The cooler just came off of my list of potential upgrades. I would have preferered a little Nespresso machine anyway.

Am other extreme....any drinks/food/unsecured items are banned in my cars....would pay to have option to have cupholders deleted at factory....(and sunroof delete...but I digress)

Sounds like you cannot be from the US I would be fine with no cup holders.

308 for sure is available in Europe.

I don't know about WSH but to me "the airplane isn't mine", makes it different.

What, the airplane? The German price is 895 or 1000 Euros, without VAT, depending if the car was ordered with a ski sack. Not cheap.

No.... Not he airplane, the refrigerator.

In Portugal extras are more expensive.

For example, here in Portugal, we paid almost 6000€ for the RES.
Bu it does worth the money.

s500l w220
Hi, been lurking for a while but first post and sorry to bump an old thread. I have an w220 which previous to my ownership had the coolbox but clearly someone at some time has removed it. They have also removed the 'plug' that sits on the inner back wall of the boot/trunk so all i have is a little rectangular hole.

I have sourced a replacement fridge but i am trying to find the correct part number for the wiring harness and plug so i can replace them properly rather that just stripping the existing connector and hard wiring it in.

I think it is part number 220-540-5708 but just wondering if anyone can confirm.

Thanks in advance.

There's a free online MB parts catalog called Startek EPC that takes your vin and gives you exploded view breakdowns of every part in your specific car. You have to sign up with a CC but for US passenger cars it's free. It'll tell you exactly the part numbers for the fridge and it's generally handy to have for other stuff.

Guys, on the W221 S, one does not need to replace the fuel tank. If you don't have the Ski sack, then you do need to change a frame as well as little bit of wiring but it's an easy upgrade.

I did it myself in my 2008 S65. I would like the wood upgrade.

Just checking, you are after a W220 wiring harness (this is the W221 forum)? Yes, the above part is correct for a W220. Seems you would need the bracket too, A1296900114.

Thanks, as it happens the replacement unit has just turned up, with the extra harness.

Yeah did realise it was the w211 forum, but thought it was kinda okay to piggy back this thread for a quick answer.

Of the w220 forums for the next question. Thanks folks.
