Bottom line, get the car fixed. Don't hide the problems, and you learned a lesson about buying cars with high miles on them. I see several issues with this situation.
1. The care should have been thoroughly researched, such as Auto Check, Car Fax, and inspected {mine are inspected by the Benz dealers}
2. Extended warranty should have been purchased earlier, or just have money set aside for issues.
3. Why is the OP getting brakes done that are not fully compatible? You can get aftermarket pads that work with the sensors, no problem. I don't get this point at all, the sensors are used for a reason. We should all know what reason that is.
4. Did the OP check to see if the transmission service was done on the car at the 40K mark? Easy to check VMI at Benz dealer for service records.
5. It does not matter about the cost of the car, 100K, 200K, 10K, is irrelevant. Know what the service costs are for your car and research this before you buy it. Any car will have problems if you neglect service and cut corners. I don't care if it is a Hyundai.
No insult, but I wish people would stop buying cars thinking because "it is XYZ brand and cost this much it should not have these problems". DIY is great, recommend at least doing the simple stuff to learn about your car and save money...but use reason.

Well as it turns out I PM'd him not too long ago and asked him if any of our suggestions lead to a successful resolution of his shifting problem, and according to his reply, we should all "go f@ck ourselves" and if he knew where any of us lived he would "hunt us down kill us."
So, reading between the lines I'd say yes, we were able to sort his problem out for him. And really, isn't that what the forum is all about?

Million Mile 1966 Mercedes 250se
I have been looking for a 2007 to 2009 S550 for the last three months. I wanted a safe and classy car for my wife and one-year-old daughter. After talking to my mechanic he insisted on me not buying an 07 or 08 due to the problems they have especially with the tranny he also said to try to find one that had a warranty. I found a ton of 07's- 09's in Los Angeles with roughly 90 K miles for 18K to 21K but after reading about all the problems and the expense of fixing these cars I finally found a 2010 but has higher mileage 74K but the original owner purchased a seven-year hundred thousand mile bumper-to-bumper warranty through Mercedes when purchased at lease end as well as prepaid service in till 2018. It cost more money but I believe it's well worth it. I picked up the car last week for $34k. I already took it in the Beverly Hills Mercedes and there was $2200 in warranty work needed. 80k mile service was also included in prepaid service. I love this car and couldn't be happier but after owning an 05 s55 and the amount of problems I had with that car I don't believe I'll buy another one without a warranty.

I bought new s550 2007 model in October 2006. I have only 31500 miles on the car. It has been garage kept and driven by one person (myself) only. Today, when I took the car out, the transmission got stuck in first gear. Just last week I had Service B done by the dealership. Of course I am out of warranty ( as this is my tenth year). still the car is practically new. It seems that transmission has been a recurring problem in these early models. Has there ever been a recall by MB to fix the problems?

Just finished reading the entire thread, somewhere in the middle there began a gay discussion......
anyway.....my recommendation is to trade it in for a LS430, reliable and you can still be a baller on a budget!

Decided to read this thread from beginning to end. A few takeaways...
1) This should be required reading for any potential buyer of a W221 so they get a reality check about getting a great deal on an out of warranty W221.
2) After several years experience with the 7G transmission, it should be apparent that the conductor plate is the likely culprit for S550 stuck in gear issues.
3) Thread should be made a sticky for entertainment value alone. I gotta say, the W222, W220, W140, etc. threads don't even touch upon the topics that this one did and not in any order...

It's a story about love, deception, greed, lust, and... unbridled enthusiasm.
Jobs2ceo was a simple country boy.
Some might say a cockeyed optimist, who got caught up in the dirty game of automobile brokers selling high mileage German luxury cars of questionable pedigree to unsuspecting Ballers.
This is what led to Jobs2ceo's downfall.
That and "Stumpy".

Well, we can only assume that the OP got to the bottom of his tranny problems and got his car fixed. He disappeared from this forum 10 days after joining and hasn't been back. Here are a few of the possible things he might have done to solve his problem:
1. Purchased some of those above mentioned Cooper tires from Naslundstarmine's source, which everybody knows would automatically align and balancedhis car to fix the tranny.
2. Purchased a Logic Lab TCU tune.
3. Spoke with that Russian dude from *******, who may have offered him a beta version of Apple Carplay with the trans fix feature.
4. Installed a Portefino package on his car. Not to fix his car...but for the cool factor.
5. Purchased some go-fast badges from WPWH28's source, which added at least 50 hp.
6. Purchased a warranty from Endurance to add 100k miles of coverage to his high mile S and had them pay for the repairs.
7. Decided to open his doors on Mondays, which helped him generate enough revenue to pay for the repairs.
8. Sold his company for millions, junked the S, and purchased a 2010 E350 with only 75k miles. Of course he kept the S wheels and put them on the E.

2007 Mercedes E-350 4-Matic
re: 'I'VE HAD IT! 2007 S550 STUCK IN FIRST GEAR'
I bought new s550 2007 model in October 2006. I have only 31500 miles on the car. It has been garage kept and driven by one person (myself) only. Today, when I took the car out, the transmission got stuck in first gear. Just last week I had Service B done by the dealership. I own a 2007 E-350 which use the same "Transmission Control Module" six months back, I had the exact same issue you described. The module itself cost around $200 - $300 from the dealer, but with labor cost dealer is going to charge you at least $1200/ or more.
I would suggest that you buy the Genuine part online and get it replaced from an INDY. You could get the whole thing taken care within $600 -to- $700
This is the online website I use for Genuine parts:
http://www.shopmercedesbmwonline.com...-v6-gas-engine
PS: Before you purchase any parts, get a OBDII diagnostics, it will show P0700 / P0710 or a similar Fault Code for transmission control unit, for which replacing the above part (Transmission Control Module, also sometimes called as Conductor Plate) will definitely fix the problem.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
-Irfan Qayyum
