I would suggest that you buy the Genuine part online and get it replaced from an INDY. You could get the whole thing taken care within $600 -to- $700

This is the online website I use for Genuine parts:
http://www.shopmercedesbmwonline.com...-v6-gas-engine

PS: Before you purchase any parts, get a OBDII diagnostics, it will show P0700 / P0710 or a similar Fault Code for transmission control unit, for which replacing the above part (Transmission Control Module, also sometimes called as Conductor Plate) will definitely fix the problem.

Hope this helps.

Wow. Way to hijack, man. Here's how it should be phrased in this thread:

Shukla,
I own a 2007 E-350 which use the same "Transmission Control Module" six months back, I had the exact same issue you described. The module itself cost around $200 - $300 from the dealer, but with labor cost dealer is going to charge you at least $1200/ or more. Also, Dave refuses to do reach-arounds.

Let's try to keep the thread classy, ok guys. Also, this post looks a lot like a sincere and informed attempt to help someone with their transmission questions, which is generally frowned upon.

He should have noted that the new Genuine Mercedes Sausage requires SCN coding. Typically this needs to be done by the dealer, although there may be some independents that can do it as well.

Can you use a scan tool to check that Mercedes sausage? I heard that some of the indy shops are good at using those. If you come across any techs named Neil or Bob, you're likely in luck!

I would take issue on your characterization of ATC as "super gay". He appears to be a self-described heterosexual gerontophile. Also, the size and shape of his genitalia has little bearing on the above described transmission issues, unless it affects his perception of "shift hardness".

I would suggest that the person just go down to their independent Mercedes technician and ask if they can SCN code their Sausage.

If not, their local Mercedes dealer will certainly do it, providing that they supplied the Sausage directly to you. They are happy to supply a Sausage directly to their customers but may require that they install the Sausage as well.

Your shop needs the latest StarPork software and BMI (Breakfast Meat Interface), and Windows Vista or higher.

I've heard those systems have problems with Windows 10....and causes the Sausage to spew distorted data all over the screen. A real mess to be sure.

This thread has lost some steam. Likely because the OP solved his problem with one of the items from my list in post #249.

I see this as a very informative thread as there has been much education for future members of this board. It should definitely be a sticky.

Thanks for the information. I still feel that MB should take care of the lemon parts based on the laws.

With some rare exceptions, the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act applies to the original owner of a new vehicle while within the manufacturers warranty period. Nothing in the law would help a second owner, on an eight year old car that is four years outside the warranty period. A CPO car might be an exception since the manufacturer is extending its own coverage as an inducement to buyers.

This is why we harp incessantly about the wisdom of owning an S that is not covered by a warranty or service contract.

To be fair, the earlier responses were sincerely trying to be helpful. Unfortunately, the OP was financially challenged with meeting his car payment or getting the transmission issue fixed. The OP opted to get around the problem by manually shifting the car. On top of that he brought up that he had a brake sensor problem which he wanted to circumvent by disabling the sensors. I think even one of the responses suggested taping the brake sensors?!!

I feel for the guy and I understand the overpowering need to drive a status symbol, but you gotta do the math to make sure you can handle these unexpected maintenance surprises. It was also hard to read well-intentioned advice from other members telling the OP to get his transmission looked at and he's ignoring them and asking for shortcuts on a fix. There are very few shortcuts you can take with the S-Class. You pay for it now or you pay for it later.

Bottom line, the 2007 W221 that the OP had probably experienced a conductor plate issue which the earlier W221's were notorious for. The OP has a lovely car in his photo and I personally hope he was able to resolve the issue and is able to enjoy his vehicle to this day.

For me, when I'm looking for technical expertise in a thread and by the 3rd page its devolved into a discussion about **** sex with an elderly stroke victim wearing a Boy Scout uniform I stop reading. But if you're into that kind of thing, by all means keep bumping the thread.

So we offer some great advice to the OP...who apparently opted to not take it. Then he starts calling us names and the thread delves into an even more informative thread about our changing bodies. Then some guy who calls himself "Optimus Prime" decides to criticize the most helpful members of this thread? I would think that there is a reason he calls himself Optimus Prime....such as him being able to change himself into any nefarious character as depicted in this thread.

Given the guys implied financial situation, maybe "Optimus Sub-Prime" would have been a better user name.

Besides, he's never going to "win". He's tried in four different movies and the Decepticons keep coming back.

Optimus, I'm sure there are a number of folks on this forum who have to carefully budget the maintenance costs for their cars and I respect that. I think we can all agree that the we love our Mercedes vehicles and being a part of this online community is an opportunity to learn and share information about our Mercedes cars. I'm not as adventurous as Nick The Greek when it comes to repairs, but I've been able to do a few things myself to save some money. Plus being an engineer, I'm always trying to figure out how things work.

As for the Mike and Dave show, their off-color humor has been known to offend a few folks in the past, but it adds entertainment value to the W221 forum. Have you been on some of the BMW forums? They are boring like cigar smoking, jacket wearing, old dudes with attitudes. I do not sense the same level of community that we have here on the W221 board. On many of Mike's posts, I'm reminded of a good FRIEND I had in High School. He told me, "I'm equal opportunity . . . I'm an equal opportunity *** hole . . ." So don't take it too personal.

Lastly, Mike does have a point. Why do you let the Decepticons keep coming back???
