Highest miles on a tank of gas
What is the highest mileage has anyone gotten out of a tank of gas?
Has anyone ran out of gas? If so, at what mileage?
I've been getting in a 380-400 range before the icon appears to fill up. I would drive another 20 miles before I chicken out and stop for gas. But when I fill up it only fills up to 15 gallons, at the most, out of the 17.4 capacity. I have a 126-mile commute everyday so I try to stretch out my tankful whenever I can to not fill up and stop more than I need to.

4.9 l /100 km equals 48 US MPG
5.3 l /100 km equals 44.38 US MPG over 642 miles range .Note still 1/8 of a tank left & no fuel low warning lamp illuminated.

Diesels Rule . With 400 NM of torque ie 295 Ft Pounds.
Our 1994 diesel Peugeot 405 did the same trip on a tank. ie over 44 MPG US.

100KM/5.3L = 62Miles/1.4Gal = 44.385 Miles/Gal My 250 is typically seeing 475/tank mostly around town driving, so around 29 MPG. Straight highway, is between 30-34 depending on speed and if I run the AC or not...

I've ran out of gas once testing the limits of the tank with approximately a 1-2 blocks away from a gas station. I forget the total miles, but it was definitely past my personal record of 446 miles I have on fuelly. If you click on my signature, you'll see that I've been logging my miles on almost every tank for the first 35k miles of ownership (I didn't discover Fuelly until 10k in). I wasn't able to record the one where I ran out of gas since the test was screwed up since I needed to be rescued, but based on my logs, my biggest one was done on 2/22/14 446.50 miles, 16.071 Gallons, 27.78 MPG for the tank, at a price of $4.019/gallon; whereas the car computer said I did 29MPG, with an overall average speed of 43MPH for the tank and total drive time of 10:29 hours.
My personal best MPG overall was 28.26 MPG (441.5 miles, 15.623 gallons, 9:56 drive time, 44MPH average speed) back in 4/17/14.
After testing, I've come to the conclusion that each tick marker represents roughly 1 gallon of gas. So assuming you are averaging 25mpg overall, and with 16 ticks, you can travel 400 miles before the needle reaches empty but you'll still have 1 gallon of gas left in the tank, with maybe the remaining .4 trapped somewhere in the lines.
Bottom line is one of the things I love about the W204 is that it doesn't lie to you, unlike our other cars (Lexus/Acura) where the gauge is extremely conservative. And just for fun...the most expensive gas I have on record was in 2013 when it was $4.46/ gallon for 91 from Costco.

Good info edgalang !!!
I'm going to shoot for 446 before I fill up next week. On my way home last night my MPG read 33.1
Good to know that I can get up to 16 gallons with no problems.

Well, I average about 17-19 mpg. There's a possibility that I'm a "spirited" driver as well..
Also, fun fact, the V6 C250 gets worse fuel mileage than the C300

Haha!
Crisp 75mph pretty much entire way, but that was mostly summer time mpg. Now I get ~26. Unless I boost up to ~100 then it goes down to 22 LOL.

BTW, my 126-mile commute is about 95% highway, so I cruise around 75 mph whenever possible.

My CPO C250 coupe has the 66 liter (17.4X gallon) tank.
Shortly after purchase, we drove round trip from our state capital to Carmel (CA).
Fill-up was just over 12.7 gallons of RON 91/93. Trip odometer read 443.9,
I was rather surprised when the ensuing calc's showed just under 35 MPG.
We like this car.

Got 464.4 miles with 15.02 gallons about 7 months after I got the car on a roadtrip. Now I average just over 400 miles combined city/highway. The best mpg I ever got was 32.22.
