Order placed...

After over 10 years of E-Class ownership, I have just placed an order for a new SL500 in Obsidian Black with Bengal Red Nappa seats. I'm in the UK so the options I've chosen are:

Driver Assistance Package - Distronic, Blind Spot & Lane Assist.
Keyless Go - Remote boot closing & hands free access.
HK Sound System
Magic Sky
Electric wind deflector
Airscarf
Ambient Lighting
Black ash trim
75l tank.

Should be here late spring when hopefully there will be a few decent days for a spot of open top driving!

Thanks to this group for posting some interesting threads that got me interested in this very fine car. I may have more specific questions in a few months time

Nice choices! I ordered my SL too and it took about 3.5 months to arrive in the US. I also came from an E class and I can tell you that you will be amazed with the SL. My E was great and I loved it but the SL is just on another level.

I suggest taking the car across the channel for a spin in Germany. You'll appreciate it even more

Thanks, it's reassuring to hear it only took 3.5 months to manufacture and ship to the U.S. My dealer mentioned about 3 months, but I thought he was being optimistic and thought 4-5 months was more realistic.

I collected my first E-class from the factory so have had the autobahn experience. I am planning a cross France into Spain trip for the summer; limited to 130kph, but should still be fun.

The Silverstone race track is only 10 miles from me, so a track day may be in order...

Nice! Will most likely put a deposit down myself in the coming week ... haven't decided on whether SL550 or SL400 yet. Options are going to be pretty much the same -- only difference should be the engine.

Hoping I am going to regain sanity, save the money and get a MX-5 (aka Miata) when the new ones come out this summer instead!!!!

Heard from the dealer today that they are expecting delivery on the 29th April, so only 12 weeks to wait... Hopefully the factory will manage to stick to these dates, so May looks like a fun month!

Talking

A surprising email from the dealer today... The factory found an earlier build slot and my car is in transit to them a month earlier than expected!!!

Suddenly I've only got a week to juggle money, get insurance, tidy the garage etc.. Will I cope? Oh yes!

Delivery day is almost here... I've had the opportunity to sit in my car on a couple of occasions this week while the they have been doing the pre-delivery checks. Final clean this weekend and I drive her away on Tuesday next week. Can't wait

This week? How long does it take in the UK to prep a car for delivery? I am not used to have that take longer than a day.

Anyways, enjoy your Easter weekend with your new toy and take some pics!

I could have picked it up earlier, but needed to push the transaction into the next tax year which in the UK starts on the 6th April for historical reasons. So as the 6th is Easter bank holiday, Tuesday 7th is collection day.

Dave I am in old town beaconsfield I will keep an eye out for you. If you see a dark grey SL with lots of red bits and a a lot of noise coming out the back, that will be me.

I collected the car on Tuesday and have been enjoying the post Easter sunshine. The SL500 has exceeded all my expectations! It's a very comfortable long distance cruiser, but with massive power reserves whenever you need it. The low end torque is amazing, with the rev counter hardly ever getting over 1500 on steady drives, even up relatively steep hills. I'm glad I upgraded the standard audio to the HK version which certainly gives a massive improvement over the standard audio in my E350.

A quick picture of the new car below:

Very nice.
I see you have the trunk spoiler, I just put one on mine as in my opinion the spoiler makes the rear of the car fit better with the rest of the bodywork design.

I was uncertain about the spoiler, and at the beginning asked if it could be deleted, as the 'AMG Sports' body package is now standard in the UK. The dealer did not seem to think this was possible - even if 'Delete Spoiler' is an option on the AMG63... I decided not to push this and am ultimately glad with the decision as the spoiler has grown on me.

What is included in the AMG sports body package? from your picture I see no difference from mine that did not have this package (apart from the trunk spoiler), I do have the AMG wheels and larger brakes though.
