2017 SL DOG
Just thought I share the latest Dealer Ordering Guide for the 2017 SL.
Unfortunately they are listing the availability as "late spring" which would mean May instead of April. Guess we'll have to see...
I did have to compress the PDF again to meet the file size requirements, so the pics may be a bit fuzzy.
+ Apple CarPlay integration included as standard equipment!!
Enjoy

Thx Wolfman..just what I was waiting for.....you seem to get info before the dealers even know anything????
So, I am going for this new blue color and although way too high(thousand bucks..think the red calipers will look great, know this as have a corvette with this set up. Shouldn't complain as previous extras are now included but still can't work out the trim part....does trim mean facia? (as in dashboard and surround) I just can't stand a black facia which nearly 90% of cars have today and at present have the stone leather with brown trim combo...unfortunately I only see a ginger leather/brown combo, all the rest are black.. but notice that they have a Champagne white lacquer option(under the trim section) and wondered where they would be putting this?
Love the 14 spoke wheels option as well, shown in the pic I posted previously. As a matter of interest what are you going for in terms of exterior and interior cols.....
did I see correctly that the clock on the dashboard is now also included as standard?

They all border on cheesy, so we'll have to see how that looks and/or if can be removed...

I am disappointed that they didn't bring the full leather headliner option to the US (which can be added to any model in Germany).
As before ABC is a must and a really like the Magic Sky, so really all options with the exception of the B&O stereo. High-end audio in a top down car is a waste of money IMO.
The white lacquer option will likely cover all trim pieces.

Looks stunning CJ. I have always had white and now thinking to go blue. know that you had an SL550 before....Miss it or absolutely love the GTS? Apart from the obvious power and shape, what made you change and what are for you the positives and negatives...(although I am not getting a GTS regardless) but just interested to hear your thoughts.

2022 AMG SL63
The SL550 was a terrific car. What I miss about it are the luxury features:dynamic seat bolsters, massage, ABC, etc. Of course there's no folding top! - which I'd had for a total of 6 years - 3 of which with a 335i and then 3 with the SL. The SL is an overall smoother ride and corners very well. There are other luxury features with the SL - just things like on the passenger side with the GTS, there is only one set of manual seat adjustments vis-a-vis side wings and seat wings. I forget now which is missing on the passenger side - and I'm in India for 5 weeks and can't go out to the garage to see!
Plus in the SL, when you pop the "trunk" is automatically goes all the way up. Not so with the GTS. It just releases. The SL has doors that automatically latch when the door is almost closed. The GTS has none of that "sissy" stuff and basically eschews things that are not performance oriented and would cause more complexity and weight. The SL is more of a very fast touring car with great handling (with ABC it really corners flatly).
The GTS is just a fun hoot. A monster. But well behaved. Its ride can't be dialed quite as smooth and if you live in an area with poor roads the ride may beat you up. But it is so much fun. Beautiful to look at! Although beauty is always in the eye of the beholder, I think the GTS is styled way better. The GTS is also much more adjustable vis-a-vis transmission, engine and exhaust.

Honostly, unless someone is a dedicated weekend racer, who takes their car to the track, I don't know why anyone buys cars like the AMG GT, over an SL. Here, straight from the man who has owned both, we hear how the GT rides harshly, has few creature comforts, has no retractable roof, far fewer luxury features, etc. So it's REALLY fast and it LOOKS like it's really fast AND really expensive. I loved those attributes when I was teenager. I'm so glad I'm not a teen anymore.

Not sure that's strictly fair..........CJ has had an SL550 before and knew exactly what he was getting into and obviously loves his new ride and if it wasn't for the fact the wife has a really bad back, would have given it some serious thought myself as it's a fabulous car. Regardless, everyone to their own and as CJ mentioned he is loving it.............I wouldn't mind a Ferrari with obvious less comforts but absolutely love the shape as you can hear a Ferrari from 3 blocks away...would I get one? One day perhaps....but still would love to own a Mercedes SLR McLaren...............I absolutely love this car and if they would do a new shape for 2020 and get halfway there, I'm all over it.......with all the comforts....about 660 HP and under 150K....YES...

Well, you seem to be on the opposite end of the spectrum but this has nothing to do with age, just personal preference...
My wife loves the SL and will not touch our S-Class unless it snows outside. I prefer the SL over the S-Class as well, but would switch to the AMG GTS the moment the AMG GTS convertible is out (MY18 as it looks).
While the SL is a fast cruiser, the AMG GTS is just a better sports car and an excellent daily driver. This is an extremely versatile car that's just fun to drive (even on the track).
Bt, even the SL's didn't really offer a lot of creature comforts until maybe the R230 and even then only a few compared to the R231.

So in Germany and other countries, the new SL will be in the showrooms on April 9. It can also already be ordered/configured since Jan.18.
Here is a link for those interested. Prices did increase a bit (less than 2%).

Make me hope that we can get them a bit sooner too in the US

I'm also interested in the GTS, reviews are crazy good, but probably too stiff suspension for every day driving, still need to drive one though

These are springs, but then 90+% of all R231 SL's use springs as well.

I have ABC with regular tires (no RF's) which softens the ride a bit more
my dealer has one, I need to go drive it, oh no that's how it starts...

Latest version of the DOG
There has been a marked reduction in choices, especially among Designo exterior paints. Now only magno Cardinal Red and magno Selenie Grey are offered. (I looked through V4 of the DOG.)

The GTS is a car that will always draw a crowd (without being a Ferrarri or god forbid a Lambo).
An AMG SL, while having the "nice car" appeal, doesn't quite take it to the "what the hell is that?" effect.
