Magnetic Door Stops on 2017 SL???
When I recently purchased a used 2013 SL550, I was delighted to find that it had the "magnetic" door stops, like my 2015 S550 sedan. I'm not really sure if that is the correct description for the feature, but someone called them that on the W222 forum. Anyway, when you open the door, it pretty much stays put, wherever you stop it, rather than having two or three, set stops like most other cars.
Anyway, I believe this great feature was dropped on the 2016 and later S Class sedans, and for what reason, I just can't imagine. My question is, is the feature still included on the current, 2017 SL or is it gone from this car as well?

On my 2017 SL when opening the doors they hold at three specific locations.
The holds are at about one foot open, half way open and all the way open.
Cannot think of a situation where I would need the door to hold at any location besides the three provided.

The w221 and similar cars have a little gas strut in the door hinge, so it gives a resistance to movement at any position, along with a smooth, weighty feel to the door.
The Best or Nothing.

Now that you mention this I noticed the difference between my wife's '17 SL550 and the '14 SL550 we just traded for it. The '14 let you stop the door at any position and the '17 only has the few stops like most cars--I really liked the way the '14 worked better, especially when parked next to our garage wall where you want to extend the door as far as possible for ease of entry/exit. Not sure why they dropped this feature.

I just checked the car and it does have distinct stopping points. For me the difference must have been subtle enough not to notice a difference from the old one.
We have the magnetic door stops on the S-Class but am less than impressed with it. Our driveway slopes down and it never seems to hold in place. It doesn't close but slips by several inches.
