13 E63 vs 15 Vette Z51
A friend of mine just picked up a 2015 Corvette coupe Z51. Specs show its got 460hp and 465lbs/ft torque. My car is stock(for now). He challenged me to a race but I really don't race and was just curious if we did who would win. I searched the web and find 1/4 mile times ranging from 11.5 to 12.4 @ 116mph. Anyone?

This site gives 0 to 60 and quarter mile times for most vehicles on the road. Unfortunately, I do not see the 2013 E63 or the 2015 z51 but they do have data for a 2012 E63 vs. 2014 z51 and it looks like the best driver would win the race.

Race him, you didnt get this car to look at it was made to drive fast! Hard to go by stats since they are done by professional drivers and the Vette is light and will mostly loose traction.

Ya, I'd find a local drag track and have at it, it would be fun. Providing your tires are in good shape you should get of the line comfortably and easy, run my 2012 and it was a like a drive in the park, no stress at all. All the guys in the Vettes and Camaros were pissed off and said they were getting a Benz

I actually took the vette for a ride today. Not sure about speed but can tell you Chevy has got a long way to go before they get anywhere near AMG in regards to feel of quality/performance.

Exactly, you may pay more for the Benz but you get your money's worth. I had a CTS-V briefly before the Benz and hated it. It was slow to for the HP rating of 556 HP, best it would do in the quarter mile is 12.79 The Benz best stock is 12.18.

What about the new CTS-V?

Don't get too cocky...regardless of how you feel about quality, a mildly modded CTS-V will take care of business and one moderately modded or better will spank the pants off you!

Cocky. OP's question was if E63 can win a 2015 Vett. My answer would very depending on the comparisons. I would love to give the CTS V a run for their money.

When you said eat "them" for lunch I took that to include CTS-Vs since your post directly followed a post asking about CTS-Vs. There's no way we can hang mod for mod with CTS-Vs. they have real tuning capabilities that we still don't have for the W211 platform let alone the W212...

While I haven't personally sat in a c7 vette, I have heard people saying that the interior is a hell of a alot nicer than the c6. Then again the c6 interior was quite garbage to begin with, so that's not really saying much.

The new CTS-V is probably the same Junk as the old CTS-V, it will be interesting to see if they corrected the rear end problems. The V1's had real big problems with the rear ends, then the V2's ended up having to have a lot of rear ends replaced under warrantee, I'll bet the V3's still have issues. I'll bet the real world hp of the V3's is more like around 600hp, so even a mildly tuned 212 would beat them easily.

As a one-time CTS-V owner I wouldn't knock the CTS-V too much. It is a smaller car with a much more aggressive purpose and was also available in a manual. Do I prefer my E63 wagon? Of course. But it also breaks 3-4 times as often. I never had a single warranty item in the CTS-V in 50k miles and in the E63 I've had tires, shocks, air suspension, headlights, air hoses, and other things I can't remember (at least $15k in total) replaced under warranty before 40k miles.
No, the interior is not up to E-class standards, but for what was $68k new out the door for 550hp and an amazingly reliable and mechanically simple powertrain, you guys shouldn't knock it.
No, a $68k Cadillac was not the same as a $100k Mercedes. But the Mercedes has a pretty crappy interior compared to a $200k Porsche. which lacks in comparison to a (blah blah blah etc etc etc).

Wow, my experience was totally the opposite as yours I had a 2013 CTS-V Wagon and it was in the shop all the time and my Benz has had no issues that were the cars fault in 2.5 years and 40K miles now. I also briefly had a CTS-V Sedan that was a 2012 and it had a bad rear end within 5000 miles from new and I just did not like the way either of those cars drove. Very strange steering feel and the cars both felt totally inefficient. The Benz drives a lot more like a normal car. Anyhow, sorry about changing the subject away from the vette vs the benz. The other thing I felt about the CTS-V was it seemed like a big car but had very limited space inside I felt cramped, I guess for a smaller person it would be ok. The Benz I feel like I can stretch out. Lastly the performance at least on my two CTS-V's was very disappointing, I did not even feel like I was driving a performance car, the Benz really presses me into the seat when I get on the throttle. I can't really see why anyone likes a CTS-V. Some American vehicles do have their own place. I really like my Chevy pickup truck and it has been reliable.

Space
I agree with you that the CTS-V is rather small for its size compared to the W212 and the F10. Hell there is less space in the rear seat than the W211, so GM could’ve done a better job engineering the space inside. With that being said, the 2009-14 CTS-V was built to compete against the M3 and the M5, so its size pretty much split the difference. Now that Cadillac has a proper 3 series and C class fighter in the ATS, Cadillac has increased the size of the next generation CTS to offer similar or more space inside than either the W212 or F10.
Reliability
I don’t discount your negative experiences with the CTS-V. If I had the same ownership experiences I would feel the same way. So far my Caddy has been rock solid and the only major thing I had to have replaced under warranty was a differential. I never hear about any CTS-V owners complaining about having to get a rear end replaced (not that is hasn’t happened. Case in point your experiences). As was mentioned earlier that issue was notorious with the V1, but that don’t seem to be a major issue with the V2.
Interior Design
There is no doubt about it. The W212 has a more luxurious cabin than the 2009-14 CTS-V and especially the 2008-13 CTS. Despite that fact the CTS-V2 interior is not some penalty box either. It has great seats, a nice design and a more than adequate radio system. Like most cars 5 or more years old, the infotainment system and dash design is a little dated, but it is still gets the job done. In my opinion the next generation CTS and especially the CTS-V interior is awesome and just as nice or better than any car in its class except maybe Audi.
Performance
Again, I agree with you that the straight line performance out of the box left a lot to be desired. But let’s not forget that the V2 was first and foremost designed to outperform against the E60 M5 and the W212 E63 6.2l which it did handily in both handling and acceleration. The good news about the CTS-V is that the laziness can easily be tuned out with a simple ECU/TCU tune by a credible tuner. If you slap a simple $240.00 supercharger pulley with a tune then these cars will run high 10s-very 11s at 126 with good traction and air. The sky is the limit from there. The Eaton supercharged LSA will never make the torque of a tuned M157, but it can run similar times with far less rwtq because of the amount of horsepower that can be extracted from crank pulleys, cams, heads headers, etc.
13 E63 vs 15 Vette Z51
I think you should win from a roll even without a tune, but be careful from a dig if it’s an A8 Stingray. The new GM A8 transmission is DCT quick, so any errors like too much wheel spin might cause you to lose to about 100mph or so.

Ok. To put this to rest, I was on my way back from my daughter's sleep over at her cousin's house and was at a dead stop at a red light with a CTS V wagon right next to me first in line. Hit the AMG mode and the race was on. I over took the Cadillac from 0-80mph. That is all I needed to satisfy my need and yes. I do realize my is tuned and the CTS V was probably stock.
