Buying a Wrecked W221 Update: More Pictures, Video, and Damage
If you were entranced by our earlier post about the guy who purchased a cut-rate, wrecked W221 S-Class in hopes of fixing it on the cheap, the thread just got much, much more entertaining.
Lets recap where we left off: forum member mercedesbenzs55 buys the W221 at auction, sight unseen, knows it has a stained title (totaled), but still buys it anyway and plans on fixing it for about a grand, assuming it only needs some rear cosmetic stuff … anything else can be taken care of with a rubber mallet.
No, the onslaught of rubber mallets hasn’t begun yet, but the car is finally in its temporary resting place. And we can tell you, the journey wasn’t smooth.
Because the transporters mysteriously lost the only key that came with the car, a fork lift (yes) had to be used to remove it from the transportation truck. The big Benz was then placed onto a flatbed where it could gracefully slide into the new owner’s garage, all while remaining in “park.”
Our forum members have responded as such:
“I hope that you have a big-*** mallet.”
“The tires still look like they have a lot of life left on them. So you got that going for you…..which is nice.”
“Dude, you’re getting loopy. Go to bed. You don’t have a key in your new wrecked car. Forklift it off the truck, get the title, order a new key, purchase some good insurance, then drive it off a cliff.”
Thankfully, this whole process is being documented in incredible detail, so if you want to see what it’s like to fork lift a keyless S-Class off a transport rig, take a look below, and be sure to follow along on the forum, as this saga seems far from over.
