This Incredible 1968 250SL Will Soon Be in One Lucky Someone’s Collection

As I am writing this, with two days to go left on bidding at BringATrailer, $27,300 is the highest wager so far for this beautiful 1968 250SL. That means some Joe-schmoe or MB enthusiast sees a fair bit of value in this car. It’s not 100%, which also makes the bidding quite interesting to watch. Despite the appearance from pictures, there are some things that pock this car, keeping it from being a 10/10.

There’s two concerns with this car, both affect the value, but only one of them affects appearance. One of the front fenders has rust starting to bubble under the paint, and that rust extends to the inner fender. Structural integrity is said to be unaffected, but it will need to be addressed. It may not affect appearance, but the other concern is that the long block on this car is not original. In 1990, the original engine ate one of its own pistons for lunch, and prompted the replacement.

Documentation on this car is one redeeming value. Pictures below show one of the binders of paperwork, but the seller has dedicated an entire album to receipts. Is it enough for a high selling price? We will have to wait and see.
