Mercedes 190 E Cosworth: Someone Please Buy This!

By -

Is this classic Mercedes Cosworth too good to be true?

When you see the price, you’re going to regret not buying this Cosworth.

If prior sales of the 190 E’s hottest version are anything to go by, this Cosworth is one heck of a deal. However, there’s more to it than just the price.

The condition of used examples varies widely. Some good running cars need bodywork. Well-worn but well-maintained cars also exist. And then, there are the driver’s cars. They look great from 10 feet away, but as you get to know them, you know they need some TLC. But… they look good.

This classic Cosworth is a drivable classic.

This 190 E, with its 16-valve, hand-built competition engine, is definitely a driver’s car. It’s in decent enough shape to drive, but there’s a lot that needs to be done to bring it back it to showroom condition. Paint is slightly faded in a few areas, but it’s mostly free of dings and scrapes. The interior could use some help, with a worn out driver’s seat, shift knob, missing radio, and a cracked dashboard. But again, you get what you pay for.

Mechanically, not much is said about running condition, and in a few of the pictures, the 2.3-liter engine is hooked up to jumper cables. But the seller states it just recently passed California smog inspection, which is a very promising sign.

In the right hands, just like our beloved Project 190 E, this car has some great potential.
