S-Class Coupe, Cabriolet Make Final Exit Off the Autobahn

Mercedes S-Class Coupe Exclusive Edition

Though both the S-Class Coupe and Cabrio will enter the new decade, they will eventually give way to the SL-Class and AMG GT.

Back in 2015, the first Mercedes S-Class Coupes landed in showrooms around the world. A year later, fans of luxury two-door convertibles found a new champion in the S-Class Cabriolet.

Both the coupe and cabriolet are set to leave the showroom forever. Motor1 says Mercedes-Benz will not replace the two offerings with newer versions in the next decade.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet

Per product plans originally reported by Automobile, the next-gen S-Class Sedan will hit showrooms in 2020, which will come in long and standard wheelbase variants, as well as a Pullman model. The Coupe and Cabriolet, meanwhile, will soldier on through the start of the new decade, only for their production to cease sooner rather than later due to lack of demand.

Mercedes-Benz AMG GT

Those who want two doors with or without a fixed roof can take heart in knowing the AMG GT and eighth-gen SL-Class will be there to take up where the S-Class offerings will one day leave off. The SL-Class is expected to arrive at the same time as the new models in 2020, and is mechanically and structurally similar to the high-performance GT.
