Live from LA Auto Show: Mercedes-Benz debuts S65 AMG

Mercedes showed off a few new vehicles in Los Angeles which we’ll be telling you about through out the day. You’ve already seen the Vision Gran Turismo Concept and we’re smitten by it but, sadly, it’s just a concept which will only see production in the virtual sense (in Gran Turismo 6). But this car, the new S65 will see production and we can’t wait. It’s powered by twin turbo V12 making about 621hp and 738 lb.ft. of torque, you know, for melting tires.

It should run the 0-60 sprint in 4.2 seconds, or .3 seconds slower than the S63 (due to the fact that the S63 is equipped with a smaller, lighter V8). Of particular note however, is that MB is using the S65 to launch new technology never before seen in a Benz– a head’s up display and touchpad.

The head’s up display will be used to show information such as speed, navigation instructions and adaptive cruise control. While the touchpad will control the infotainment system using swipes, much like a tablet or smartphone, and will also understand letters and numbers. We expect both to trickle down to other Mercedes vehicles in the near future.
